MY TOP 3 FOR SENIORS
As we seniors age our digestive tract and other systems ages and becomes less efficient. If it were not so then we would still look like we’re 30 years old. Less efficient digestive tract means less efficient absorption of our food and more waste. More waste so that why we move our bowels more often then our younger days. Fact of life so we might want to cheat a little.

My top-3 go to list as a senior is

1) Vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin, the active form. Why?
To prevent stroke/sudden death from the build up of HCY or homocysteine. HCY is like superglue so it hardens blood vessels super fast .. then stroke, cancer or worst.

2) Magnesium as magnesium glycinate or threonate. Why? To keep our muscles relax … especially the heart, a 24/7 muscle. Essentially to prevent heart attack. Magnesium is getting lower and lower in our vegetables because of intensive farming. Like -75%

3) Omega 3 with total EPA & DHA of at least >600mg per serving. Why? To prevent dementia, memory loss, as we age. 60% of your brain fat is DHA. Supplement and also eat lots of fatty cold water fish like cod and halibut.

Above all, eat real, eat whole and eat clean. No processed and no preservatives. Avoid xenoestrogens from plastics, phalates, polyestersc etc.

3 Tips to avoid dementia

1) High DHA fish oil daily. 60% of your brain fat is DHA. If it shrinks you fade .

2. Magnesium glycinate or threonate supplement daily. Magnesium relaxes the muscles and if the neck/shoulder muscles are tense then it constricts the carotid arteries that send blood to the brain. Relaxing your muscles also help you sleep better. If your sleep quality drops then your neck/shoulder muscles tense up. Magnesium also maintains healthy blood pressure.

3. Gingko Biloba leaf extract or Gotu Kola supplement to dilate your blood vessels and keep optimum blood circulation using the nitric oxide mechanism.

Eat clean and eat real. No preservatives, no processed, no MSG and preferably no trans-fats, etc. It makes what you eat very easy to burn.

If you eat stuff that your body cannot break down then you store it. Dead fats (dead adipose tissue) won’t burn then stores and stores into weight gain.

Daily we must make serotonin, a neurotransmitter for our brain. We eat seeds to acquire the protein call L-Tryptophan that converts to 5-HTP and into serotonin for our mood. At night serotonin is converted to melatonin for our sleep. Next day we make new serotonin.

Steel cut organic from NTUC. Do not get instant oats - it is too refined and spikes your insulin. Slow cook with lots of water and stir constantly to prevent it sticking to the bottom of the pot. Vitamin B12

Vitamin B12 is from meats like beef and lamb. Plant sources of Vitamin B12 are not human absorbable. Supplements use different forms of B12. I prefer the active B12 form together also with the active folate MTHFR.

The reason why vitamin B12 level drop are not only deficiency from diet but it happens during periods when our stomach acid and intrinsic factor is too low to absorb vitamin B12 from food or supplements that use inactive forms. This happens there is stress, poor sleep, hormone shifts and aging.

First sign is stiff neck and shoulder muscles. The heart has to push blood into the brain through blood vessels that are constricted by these tight muscles. Then energy is drawn away from the digestive tract. This may result in poor digestion and low stomach intrinsic factor. Then B12 levels may drop.

How to lower your heart attack risk

These are 5 ways that may help you lower your risk of a heart attack.

1. Drink at least two cups of water when you wake up. You dehydrate through the night. This thickens your blood and increases the workload of your heart.

2. Alternative is to take CoQ10 before you sleep and/or after you wake up. This increases the capacity to carry more energy molecules call ATP to lower the workload on your heart.

3. Take Magnesium daily. Your heart is a muscle that works 24/7 using calcium to contract and magnesium to relax. Magnesium is also involved in the ATP energy transport. Get a more absorbable form of magnesium like magnesium glycinate, threonate or citrate.

4. Sleep by about 10pm for 7.5 hours or more. Your liver removes lactic acid between 10pm to 2pm. Lactic acid is a robber of oxygen and this increases your heart’s work load.

5. Finally the most important advice is to take Vitamin B12 daily. You may be healthy and fit yet still have a heart attack. This has nothing to do with LDL cholesterol. The unrecognised real killer is called HCY or homocysteine. If you think of LDL as sticky gum then HCY is like super glue. It happens suddenly and quickly due to deficiencies in Vitamin B12. This causes your blood vessels to suddenly harden super fast causing heart attacks. Look for a good formula that uses the active form of B12 called methylcobalamin. Add active form of Vitamin B9 or MTHFR. This gives your body the ability to remove excessive HCY.

Why old persons smell different?

Men in their 30s and 40s apparently emit an odour that smells like used, old oil and is distinct from old person smell. According to a seven-year study on 800 male subjects by Mandom, the Japanese personal care brand, the smell is typically produced at the crown and back of the head, and peaks from ages 35 to 49. The cause is said to be an increased level of diacetyl, which is a compound created when lactic acid in sweat gets broken down by bacteria. If you want to reduce the odour, be prepared to use products that smell like cinnamon or licorice because the flavonoids from these plant sources were found to bring down diacetyl levels.

According to the study, omega-7 monounsaturated fatty acid’s level in skin-surface lipids is found to increase up to six times with age. However, the cause of the increase is not clear. The smell-inducing 2-nonenal is a by-product of omega-7 monounsaturated fatty acid after oxidation, said dermatologist Dr Eileen Tan from Eileen Tan Skin Clinic & Associates, Mount Elizabeth Novena Hospital. "Age-related body odour likely has nothing to do with personal hygiene," said Dr Tan.

This could be caused by the age-related loss of collagen, which means your skin isn’t able to prop itself up as well as before. As a result, the sweat glands get compressed against the skin’s surface, making it harder for sweat to come out. Seniors sweat less. Less sweat means less bacterial action, which then affects your body's odour.

The distinct scent typically becomes noticeable in later adulthood, around 60 years old or older” and can be set off and intensified by those aforementioned factors, said Assoc Prof Lim.

Dinner is mixed vegetables with fish slices with half the rice. I order “chow ching” meaning no MSG, no sauces, less salt and lower oil. The lady taking my order says she also cook chow ching at home. That meansf all the MSG etc is only to sell to people outside.

My western is also “chow ching”. No MSG, no sauce, no salad dressing, lower salt, grilled not fried.

Another lady I order fish head noodles from at the mall also said the same thing to me. She cook chow ching at home but in the food court she adds MSG, sauce everything for others. She does chow ching for me.

Permitted as in permitted additives doesn’t mean it’s good for you. Safe in short studies. But our body accumulates till the toxic load becomes a disease. We never outsource our health or our life. We must not become part of the national health statistics (it’s not good). We must be exceptional.
