🕍 Dating back to 1835, the Armenian Apostolic Church of St. Gregory the Illuminator is Singapore’s first and oldest Christian church. The Armenians were among the earliest immigrants in Singapore.
Despite being a small community, they played a significant role in Singapore's development, including the establishment of Singapore Press Holdings (SPH) and contributing to the national flower, the Vanda Miss Joaquim, which symbolizes our multicultural identity🌸
The church even houses the Armenian Heritage Centre, where you can learn more about the Armenians of Singapore. Admission is by appointment only.

Introducing Jacky Ong, the dedicated manager of Bras Basah Colour Services Centre.
This humble family business began in 1996, establishing itself as a renowned destination for photo development during the era of film cameras. Transitioning into the digital age presented challenges, the shop initially struggled to adapt to the changes and suffered a significant hit to their livelihood. As they evolved and adapted to trends, Jacky applied his background in graphic design to incorporate creativity into their services and tapped on e-commerce to broaden their reach.
Today, as a full-service digital lab, they offer a range of services from photo printing to graphic design. With three decades of experience under their belt, they've not only amassed industry knowledge but also earned the trust and support of their loyal clientele and hope to inspire future generations to continue in this field. 📸✨

Keeping a family tradition alive at All Things Hainanese!
Meet the powerhouse trio behind All Things Hainanese: sisters Jocelyn Loi and Josephine Loi, alongside their cousin Charmaine Goh. Their venture pays homage to their late grandmother Mdm Yeoh, who ran a Hainanese snack stall in Toa Payoh. The stall was later handed over to second-generation owner Mdm Goh, Jocelyn and Josephine's mother.
Upon Mdm Yeoh's passing, Jocelyn, Josephine, and Charmaine wanted to honour their grandmother's memory and continue her work. They set up All Things Hainanese, an online home-based business, in September 2020. As the business flourished, it eventually opened its doors as a physical store in Bras Basah Complex in April 2021, selling various cookies, ang ku kueh, and crackers. With backgrounds in hotel management and chocolate making, Jocelyn and Charmaine combine their skillsets as they manage the store full-time, with Josephine providing her support wherever possible.
Kueh lovers will be thrilled to find authentic flavourful Hainanese snacks such as yi bua, ang ku kueh and mochi available here. The kueh is handmade daily, with the ingredients freshly prepared for every batch of kueh. The yi bua kueh is especially popular, drawing a stream of new and returning customers with its distinctive taste. The next time you are in the area, remember to drop by to try some kueh and indulge yourself in Hainanese culture!

Step into the world of Basheer Graphic Books, a beloved independent gem in Singapore.
Founded over 30 years ago by Mr. Basheer Ahamed, the beginnings of this bookstore can be traced to his early years as a traveling salesman, bringing art, design, and architecture books to clients in the 1980s. His son, Mr. Abdul Nasser, joined the trade in his 20s, helping his father to carry the heavy suitcases of books.
From door-to-door sales to a physical shop in Bras Basah Complex in the 1990s, Basheer Graphic Books has withstood the test of time, offering an extensive collection of books and magazines dedicated to arts and design. It is well-known for its range of niche, rare and exclusive books on design, architecture, and photography. Upon Mr Basheer's passing in 2018, Mr. Abdul Nasser carries on his father's legacy, ensuring this cherished bookstore continues to inspire and delight generations of artists and designers alike. 📚✨
Today, the bookshop also holds the space for the design community to meet, interact, exchange ideas and create experiences and also offers a wide variety of independent magazines that caters to customers with unique interests. It is indeed an icon in Bras Basah not to be missed!

Known as the “City of Books” in Mandarin, this iconic landmark was completed in 1979. Comprising residential HDB blocks atop retail shops, it was the hub of numerous bookstores previously located at North Bridge Road and Bras Basah. Today, the complex houses popular F&B outlets like Toastbox, music retail giants like Swee Lee, and renowned bookstores such as Popular and Basheer Graphic Books, all nestled under one roof. Join us for a nostalgic stroll at Bras Basah Complex and discover the hidden gems of arts and culture in this nostalgic building! 📚🎶🖌️
