Thank you to everyone who joined us for the latest -- Pretty Mental, co-organised by EMCC and The Black Sampan, on Sunday! A huge shoutout to MP Dr Wan Rizal, Shiao-Yin Kuik, Thomas Tsang (EMCC), and Dr Jonathan Kuek, for their insights on mental health and how we can move forward as a society to be more empathetic.
During the panel discussion, we delved into how we can create more supportive environments moving forward, practical steps to foster healthier and more supportive workplaces, the process of dealing with grief, and figuring out how to bridge the intergenerational gap when speaking about mental health challenges.
We're also thrilled to have officially launched the It’s Not You campaign! Stay tuned for more exciting updates as we continue this important conversation on mental health. 💬✨
Visit itsnotyou.emcc.org.sg to learn more and be part of the movement. Let's keep talking, supporting, and breaking the stigma together.
”It’s Not You, It’s Me…“ — said Stressia, Tarama, and Ah Dee.
We’ve all got a bit of Stressia, Tarama, and Ah Dee in us, but they don’t define us.
Join them in the ”It’s Not You“ campaign, where we’re all about normalising mental health conversations and reminding people that they’re more than their struggles. This movement is here to create safe spaces, offer real resources, and bring communities together.
Let’s shift the way we talk about mental health—because no one should be defined by their symptoms.

EMCC recently held its second Peer Support Group (PSG) session for the EMCC-Barclays LifeSkills Programme, where our counsellors, Sapna Mathews and Amanda Tay, covered the topic of “Managing Negative Thoughts".
Participants were introduced to the mind’s natural tendency to dwell on negative thoughts, which can exacerbate modern challenges such as stress, anxiety, and depression. This awareness is particularly valuable for job seekers, as learning how to manage negative thinking can help them cope with the emotional strain often associated with the job search process.
Historically, the human brain has been wired to prioritise negative experiences, as early humans needed to be vigilant about potential dangers in their environment for survival. While this evolutionary trait protected them from harm, it also heightened their focus on negative events, often overshadowing positive experiences.
Through this session, we hope participants gained the skills to shift their negative thought patterns and effectively self-regulate using the tools shared with them.
Let's get real about mental health! EMCC is excited to co-host Pretty Mental with AtapAssembly, where we dive deep into what mental wellness truly means. This isn’t just another talk – it’s about understanding mental health, supporting each other, and embracing that it’s okay not to be okay.
Join MP Dr. Wan Rizal, Shiao-Yin Kuik, Jonathan Kuek, and EMCC’s own counsellor Thomas Tsang as they share their insights on mental wellness, coping strategies, and breaking down stereotypes. Expect a relaxed atmosphere with great food, fun activities, and time to connect. Whether you’re curious or passionate, this is a space to learn and grow together.
We’d love to see you there on 15 Sep, 2 - 5pm, at Common Ground Civic Centre! Reserve your seat here: https://peatix.com/event/4118876.

"Adulting 101: When the jump from school to work feels like 'free falling', how do I find solid ground?" by TODAY journalist Nikki Yeo.
Do you feel overwhelmed trying to adjust to a new working environment? Here's what experts, including EMCC Counsellor, Ms Amanda Tay, say about why the jump from school to work feels like such a leap for young adults, and how to better cope.
Adulting 101: When the jump from school to work feels like 'free falling', how do I find solid ground? SINGAPORE — As I inch closer to my 25th birthday, I find myself becoming increasingly nostalgic for when I was 15. Back then, I was thick in the struggles of secondary school mathematics, but with the perks of seeing my friends every day and school holidays.
Grief is a natural response to any loss, even those that seem insignificant. It can bring a mix of emotions like anger, relief, sadness, and fear. Each person’s grief is unique and influenced by their relationship with the loss. Remember, grief can't be neatly categorised – it’s a deeply personal journey.
This week, we explore the topic of grief with EMCC's counsellors. For more information, read our newsletter here: https://emcc.org.sg/emcc_newsletters/what-is-grief.

EMCC is pleased to announce that we have been awarded the President's Challenge funding for our “Enhancing Active Seniors' Emotional and Mental Well-being” Programme. In collaboration with St Luke’s Eldercare (SLEC), this project is designed to improve seniors' emotional and mental well-being through individual counselling, group sessions, psychoeducation on self-care, and caregiver support groups.
We are also committed to supporting SLEC staff, volunteers, and caregivers by equipping them with the necessary skills and knowledge to address mental wellness issues effectively. Of about 65 awards given by President's Challenge 2024, EMCC was among six agencies (CampusImpact, Lutheran Community Care Services Ltd, Persatuan Persuratan Pemuda Pemudi Melayu, National Gallery Singapore, PSALT CARE Ltd ) invited to present our projects to President Tharman and Ms Ittogi.
Our Executive Director, Elaine Tan, shared during an interview with CNA that EMCC will also provide direct counselling for the seniors at St Luke's Eldercare. We recognise that it would take a village to support our seniors, and we are excited about the positive impact this programme will have on our community!
EMCC's Associate Trainer, Ivan Ng, delivered an engaging presentation at Norgren, providing their staff with valuable strategies and insights on managing mental health and promoting overall well-being.
This initiative by EMCC aims to promote inclusivity and mental health awareness, emphasising the importance of these issues in Singapore's context. Addressing mental health in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment is crucial for ensuring a productive and healthy workforce.
By fostering a supportive and inclusive atmosphere, EMCC hopes to break the stigma surrounding mental health and encourage open conversations, essential for the well-being of employees and the broader community.
