Last week, our Cluster Human Resources Manager, Geneveive Tan and Senior Facilities Manager, Jan Faizal represented our team at the Cluster Beach Clean Up with our fellow colleagues from Hotels & Resorts in Singapore.

Indigo Singapore Katong and Inn Express Singapore Katong led us in the beach clean up together with their community partner Ocean Purpose Project in Pasir Ris. Ocean Purpose Project is a Singaporean social enterprise focused on ocean conservation, plastic pollution prevention and research. They are also Singapore's 1st Blue Economy advocates and proud champions of the UN Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development.

Together we collected 15.55 kg of plastic waste, general waste, and seaweed within a span of 1.5 hours. This joint effort significantly contributed to the cleanliness of our coastline and underscored our shared responsibility for environmental stewardship.

Today marks World Hunger Day.

Earlier this month, Holiday Inn Express Singapore Orchard Road voiced our desire to advocate and contribute to our local community on food security, and we called out to our team and the public to join us in our endeavours by donating - and you answered!

Since our initiative began, our valued guests and colleagues have been proactively giving to the cause. Last Friday, we delivered all the proceeds collected to from the Heart (Singapore), a non-profit organisation we partnered with that alleviates hunger by providing reliable, consistent and sustainable food support to the less-fortunate through their food distribution programmes.

We would like to give our heartfelt appreciation and thank everyone who pitched in and donated to this worthy cause. Let us continue to foster a community that is committed to making a difference to ending food insecurity around us.

In our final roundup for Week, we are pleased for you to meet Michelle Mikaela Caraig, our Front Office Manager at Holiday Inn Express Singapore Orchard Road!

Fondly known to all as Mika, she began her journey with us in January 2015 as a Guest Service Leader, before being promoted to Front Office Manager early this year. Having been with the hotel for over 9 years, she has been present for many phases of the highs and lows, especially when COVID struck the industry at its core in 2020.

Staying true to her positive mindset and energy, Mika helped play a part to see through the hotel’s survivor during much uncertainty – ensuring the smooth transition to ever changing rules and tightening of restriction. It was then, upon stepping up to accepting demanding tasks, that she was recognised for her leadership ability and potential that we were able to grow her into her current position.

We are proud to have such talents, who are willing to go the extra mile not only for our guests, but for our own. It is what represents and what we stand for.

We hope the journeys we have told this week has inspired you to get out of your comfort zones and reach for greater heights.

We are back with our next IHG Hotels & Resorts Room to Grow Week feature, and today we are shining light on our Director of Sales, Ng Su Han and her journey to her recent appointment.

With over 13 years of hospitality wealth under her belt, Su Han has earned a well-established standing within the hotel industry, her peers, and clients. When she joined Holiday Inn Express Singapore Orchard Road in August 2017, she came onboard as a Sales Manager, and quickly demonstrated her innate ability to anticipate and appeal to our clients’ needs – which led to her promotion to Senior Sales Manager in 2019.

Her go-getter and bubbly personality are what sets her apart, reflecting in her impressive track records having won exceptional achievements over the years she has been at IHG. Last year, she was recognised as the Top 10 IHG Way of Sales User and achieved Top 3 Highest Number of Lead Share amongst the Singapore IHG Hotels & Resorts, which she contributed over 50% of leads to cross-sell.

Fast forward to the present, she now pilots the sales team for both Holiday Inn Express Singapore Orchard Road and Holiday Inn Express Kota Kinabalu City Centre, and together they set the standard for cultivating strong connections with valued partners and continuously push the boundaries to meet targets.

Continuing with Room to Grow Week, we are excited to share another one of our success stories and announce the appointment of Kishaant Prabakaran to Senior Guest Service Leader.

Having joined Inn Express Singapore Orchard Road in December 2022, Kishaant has shown exemplary efforts in making all guests’ experience a truly memorable one. From the moment they step into ours at check-in, to check-out where he bids them farewell with a “I look forward to welcoming you back soon!”, Kishaant makes certain their stay experience is smooth sailing throughout.

As a result of his remarkable guest relations handling expertise, Kishaant was nominated to be our hotel’s Guest Love Champion, where he would take on the role of leading our team to deliver a great experience for all our guests that encourages them to return and recommend us to others.

His contribution has positively impacted our team, our overall Hotel Metric Scores, and most importantly to the stay experience of our guests – having served them beyond their expectations. This is also evident in our guests’ reviews and feedbacks received across the board, online and offline.

This Room to Grow Week, we have the privilege of highlighting our commitment to driving every colleague's unique journey with us and we are kicking it off with special mention to Mark Teng (left), our Assistant Housekeeping Manager and Tun Aung (right), our Housekeeping Manager here at Holiday Inn Express Singapore Orchard Road.

Mark, who is no stranger to the IHG Hotels & Resorts family joined onboard in August 2022, bringing with him an extensive 14 years of hospitality experience. As the Assistant Housekeeping Manager, he is responsible for ensuring all our public areas are s***k and span, linen and laundry are in order, and above all, managing our diverse housekeeping team. Fondly known to the team for his creative problem solving skills, there is no challenge that is too big or too small for Mark to overcome with his team.

Tun first joined us during the pre-opening phase, working his way up first as an outsourced room attendant to joining the team full time till his promotion this year. His passion lies in training the team and overseeing our incredible team of supervisors to ensure our rooms are primed for every guest's stay.

From empowering their team on the to filling in the gaps, this dynamic duo are an invaluable asset to delivering exceptional guest experiences with genuine care and team work. Outside of work, you will find Mark revel in a good karaoke session and Tun share his love for signature Burmese dishes with friends.

As one of the significant leaders of our team, Eunice spearheads a team of her own consisting of energetic marketeers, who are the driving force of our hotel’s online brand presence on various global platforms.

Since joining us in May 2022, she has had opportunities extended to her within IHG Hotels & Resorts to take on additional supporting roles outside of our hotel – such as assisting new hotel opening of Hotel Indigo Kuala Lumpur On The Park, championing Country Campaign for Malaysia hotels and mentoring new marketing associates in the region.
