PUBLIC NOTICE
January 124 2024 - On behalf of the National Security Coordinator (NSCoord), Abdulai Caulker of the Office of National Security (ONS) wishes to make the following announcements:
Intelligence reports received by the ONS indicates that some individuals are planning to use 17th and 18th January, 2024 to stage an unlawful protest for reasons that are yet to be clarified. Our investigation into this matter reveals that there are certain miscreants and elements that do not mean well for the peace and tranquility of Sierra Leone. In this regard, as NSCoord of ONS, mandated with the responsibility of coordinating the efforts of the security sectors to protect and safeguard lives and properties and the internal integrity of Sierra Leone, let it be known that, the ONS will not take lightly anyone who attempts to derail our hard won peace after several decades of turmoil. The ONS is well-placed to foil any attempt by miscreants to reverse the progress of our beloved nation.
Furthermore, the ONS is fully aware about certain individuals who have made it a habit to post on social media scurrilous, fake and damaging stories about Sierra Leone with the objective of driving away foreign investors and dividing the nation. Henceforth, the ONS will be looking at possibilities to bring these miscreants to book by various means at our disposal.
Meanwhile, the ONS is calling on all well-meaning citizens and foreigners alike to go about their normal businesses because the ONS in collaboration with our security agencies is well-structured and capable of detecting and forestalling any security threat in any part of Sierra Leone. All business sectors of this country are advised to listen to the authentic reports and information coming from the Ministry of Information and Civic Education and to give deaf ears and report cases of misinformation, fake news and reports which have the tendency of derailing our unity, stability and national cohesion. We further advise all citizens and non-citizens to call toll free 119 to report any suspected case or issue which borders on our collective responsibility to keep Sierra Leone and its people safe and secure at all times.

*WE WHOLEHEARTEDLY SUPPORT OUR APC EXECUTIVE AND HAVE THE GRASSROOTS SUPORT! BUT LET THE EXECUTIVE DO THEIR JOBS AND DO THEM BETTER*

Since 2012, Chairman Minkailu Mansaray's a fine shy politician who has served in various capacities and did a lot of good things to bring victory to APC Party is worth commending and celebrate.

But the tenure from 2018 at the helm of the APC party has been marked by a conspicuous absence of effective and decisive leadership, casting a shadow over the party's fortunes. The vacuum since 2018 in direction and decision-making has left the APC vulnerable to internal strifes and external challenges.

There has being alleged clandestine dealings of certain members of our current executive with the Paopa govt which exacerbated the party's plight, creating an atmosphere of distrust among its members. *Such perceived collaboration has not only weakened the party's unity , effective leadership, inability to function but has also allowed crucial information and strategies to fall

The Perils of Prosecuting Ernest Bai Koroma: A Call for Prudent Consideration by

In a dramatic turn of events this week, former President Ernest Bai Koroma (EBK) found himself facing charges of treason, misprison of treason, and harbouring. As the legal proceedings unfold, it becomes imperative to scrutinize the inherent risks embedded in prosecuting a former head of state, especially in Sierra Leone's delicate political landscape.

The Abolition of the Death Penalty Act 2023 amended Section 3 of the Treason and State Offences Act, 1963 and makes treason punishable by life imprisonment. This sets the stage for a high-stakes trial. The gravity of the charges has led prominent figures, such as 's and defence lawyer to express concerns about uncharted territory and the potential establishment of a dangerous precedent.

As the nation grapples with the complexities of this legal crossroads, the pivotal question that arises is - Does indicting a former president for treason, hypothetically assuming there is evidence beyond a reasonable doubt (without confirming its existence), serves the paramount interests of peace and national security?

It is crucial to acknowledge that accountability knows no exceptions, even for former heads of state. However, the timing and context of such proceedings are paramount, particularly when public opinion and perception are shaped by the political affiliations of those involved. The decision to pursue prosecution, especially for charges as serious as treason, demands careful consideration.

Irrespective of the allegations against , the public's reception will undoubtedly be partisan. Opposition factions may perceive it as a politically motivated move, while government supporters may praise it. This division has the potential to exacerbate existing discontent in a country grappling with economic challenges and a pervasive drug epidemic.
Moreover, the historical context adds complexity to the situation.

In the current climate of unprecedented institutional mistrust, the independence and credibility of 's institutions, including the judiciary, the police and prosecutors, are under scrutiny. The perception that these entities may be used as political weapons deepens the public's lack of trust in the criminal justice system. The presence of the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice in the cabinet adds another layer of concern, potentially compromising the perceived independence of the prosecutor.

The danger lies not only in the courtroom but also in the court of public opinion, which social media amplifies. The highly polarized environment may turn the trial into a spectacle, with accusations of political witch hunts dominating the narrative. In this scenario, social media becomes the de facto prosecutor, judge, and jury, contributing to the polarization of the nation.

Given the current lack of public confidence in institutions and lingering doubts in some quarters about the authenticity of the alleged coup attempt, the government's priority should be to rebuild trust in the system. Only when confidence is restored can the government undertake high-profile trials without the shadow of political motivations.

Proceeding with the trial carries substantial costs for the government, businesses and the people as the country would be embroiled in a lengthy legal battle. Imagine blocking off central Freetown every week for months for a trial and appeals all the way up to the Supreme Court. This distraction from the government's stated Big Five priority goals and the risk of further dividing the nation call for a measured approach that prioritizes unity and reconciliation.

The precedent set by prosecuting EBK could have far-reaching consequences, ushering in a cycle of political prosecutions and vengeance that may haunt Sierra Leone for decades. Drawing lessons from international examples, it becomes clear that cautious decision-making is essential to avoid triggering street protests and political turmoil.

Assuming evidence beyond a reasonable doubt exists, prosecution is not the only avenue to resolve the current political impasse. Alternative measures, such as self-imposed exile, as proposed by , may be a swifter, cost-effective, and less impactful. To ensure accountability could be followed by an independent impartial international investigation. Balancing the pursuit of justice with the potential costs and risks associated with prosecution is essential for fostering a thoughtful and prudent approach to this complex situation.

The perils of prosecuting EBK demand careful consideration of the broader implications for peace, unity, and national security. As the legal proceedings unfold, it is crucial for government to tread cautiously, prioritizing the rebuilding of public trust in institutions and seeking alternative avenues for accountability. Only through a thoughtful and measured approach can the nation hope to navigate these treacherous waters and emerge stronger on the other side.

Let don't be easily carry away, the nitty-gritty of Ngor Maada is to distract this communique, am glad the party put premium on it, it's going to heal dividend because the international partner are fed-up with President Bio lies, his presence among his colleagues lacks the pedigree of leadership. Am still waiting to see the outcome, if not we're in doom for 2028.

Abuja is willing to host the former president of the Republic of , Former President Earnest Bai Koroma (), in furtherance to executing the agreed terms of the recent visit of a high-powered delegation to President Julius Madda Bio (), the current President of the Republic of Sierra Leone.

Former President Koroma ruled Sierra Leone for two consecutive terms and handed over power to the current president in peaceful elections, for which he remains a respected figure in the African political landscape and a potent force in the politics of Sierra Leone. He is still adored by many across political party lines. But the recent frosty relationship with the current president saw him being indicted for corruption and also invited for questioning on treason charges.

His party, the APC, remains the most vibrant opposition and the likely party to govern Sierra Leone after the current SLPP. This might come as a shock to citizens who were looking forward to a negotiated settlement between the APC and the ruling SLPP. Is this a case of former President going into exile? @

THIS SAME DIVIDE LED US TO THE LOSS OF 2018 AND FURTHER IMPLICATIONS TO 2023.

EVERY COMRADE INCLUDING YOU IS RELEVANT TO OUR WINNING.

THE ACTION OF SOCIAL MEDIA BLOGGERS OR ACTIVISTS MUST NOT BE USED AS A REFLECTION OF OUR SENIOR COMRADES.

LET US BE MINDFUL OF OUR WORDS AND ACTIONS ESPECIALLY WHEN IN A SENIOR CAPACITY.

AS A PARTY, OUR ACTION IN 2015 AGAINST SAM IS NOT ONLY BAD PRECEDENT FOR APC BUT FOR THE COUNTRY. HE RESPECTFULLY IGNORED US AND SETTLED TO GHANA.

AFTER THE ELECTION, SOME OF OUR LEADERS MOVED TO GHANA TO APPEAL FOR HIS RETURN. HE ACCEPTED AND CAME BACK TO LEAD THE VISIT OF OUR FORMER CHAIRMAN AND LEADER H.E. FORMER PRESIDENT EBK TO KONO. AND IT WAS LOVELY BUT FOR OBVIOUS REASONS SOME COMRADES ENTERED INTO THAT RELATIONSHIP THAT GOT CEMENTED AND FURTHER DIVIDED IT.

OUR PARTY THROUGH NAC GAVE SAM A LETTER OF REINSTATEMENT BUT LATER COMRADES DID ALL THEY COULD TO FIGHT HIM.

LATER HE MADE SEVERAL MOVES TO CONTRIBUTE TO THE PARTY AND WE DID NOT STOP HIM. AS A PARTY, WE FURTHER USED ALL WE COULD TO PUT CLAUSES AGAINST HIM.

WE GRANTED OTHER INDIVIDUALS TO QUALIFY FOR THE FLAGBEARER RACE BUT REJECTED HIM AS A PARTY. BUT WITH UNFAIR DEAL, WE ACCEPTED OTHERS WHO CONTESTED AGAINST US USING THE SAME CONSTITUTION.

WE SHOULD NOT BLAME SAM IN ALL BUT HOLD HIM AN APOLOGY AS A PARTY AND AS A NATION.

THIS BAD MIND IN POLITICS IS BAD. WE USED THIS SAME TO PUSH POTENTIALS FROM HOLDING KEY POSITIONS.

I DON'T CARE ABOUT YOUR DIFFERENT THOUGHTS WHAT IS KEY TO ME, IS YOUR CONTRIBUTION TO WINNING THE ELECTION.

LOOK AT SOME OF YOU WHO PREAZMCH AGAINST MINKAILU KOROMA BECAUSE HE WAS NRM, RICHARD CONTEH BECAUSE HE IS A FARM PERSON, DR. MARAH BECAUSE YOU SAID HE DOES NOT SORND MONEY, PETITO BECAUSE HE DOES NOT FOLLOW EBK'S DOCTRIME, HON. ALIMAMY KAMARA BECAUSE HE DOES NOT ALLOW NEGATIVE ACTIONS AGAINST OTHERS, KAMARA-TAYLOR BECAUSE HE WAS NOT WORKING WITH THE STRUCTURE ETC.

Joseph Fitzgerald Kamara, the lead counsel of former President Ernest Bai Koroma has referred to the treason charges against his client as trumped-up under a political vendetta.

The former Attorney General and Minister of Justice told Umaru Fofana that they were shocked and in utter disbelief at the charges.

“A dark cloud has shadowed the skies of our country [by] dragging a former head of state who was democratically elected, on trumped up charges under a political vendetta," he said.

The former President Koroma who has been under investigation and house arrest was arraigned before a Magistrate Court in Freetown today on allegations of his involvement in trying to overthrow the government.

He has been released on bail by a High Court order, and the matter adjourned to Wednesday 17th January 2024.

BLESSED IS THE HAND THAT GIVETH - AS CHIEF SAMSUMANA DONATES TO THE APC TASKFORCE

In trying moments like these, is when we should think of the less privileged, for the Lord hath said that “Whatsoever you do the the least of my brothers, that you do unto me” - Mathew 25:40

In response to that pronouncement by God, the Leadership of the SAM ‘28 Movement, on behalf of its general membership, donated the usual 15 50Kg bags of rice and the sum of Le5,000,000 to the APC Taskforce at the party Headquarters in Freetown on Saturday, December 23rd.

The donation was done by Brima Michael Turay, the Movement's Chief Of Staff, on behalf of the Sam28 family, and was received by Commander Santigie Bangura, commonly known as Commander Santos, on behalf of the Taskforce at the party Headquarters.

Lots of appreciation received with jubilation from the crowd of Taskforce members and supporters. The Sam28 Movement is very much aware of the political uncertainty and the cloud that is hovering, and therefore humbly requests for calm and respect for the Rule of Law, for in the struggles of the APC, there is always victory for all.

How can EBK be put under house arrest when he isn't even detained or facing charges, how can he be given bail?
Bail refers to the provisional release of an accused individual before trial, sometimes in exchange for a cash deposit to ensure the accused's court appearance.

The Sierra Leone’s Court of Appeal in Freetown, on December 7th, 2023 affirmed the findings of the Commission of Inquiry (COI) report against former President Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and his ex-Finance Minister, Dr. Samura Kamara and court delivered a final judgment with substantial penalties on Dr. Ernest Bai Koroma and Dr. Samura Kamara.

The COI, initiated by President Julius Maada Bio in 2018, focused on scrutinizing the activities of past government officials, particularly the eleven years of the All People’s Congress administration. The Commissioners—Justice Biobele Georgewill, the late Justice Bankole Thomposn, and Justice William Annan Atuguba—presented their findings, implicating certain officials, including former President Koroma and some ministers.

Challenging the findings after the government’s White Paper release, the former officials sought redress at the Court of Appeal. Despite their appeals, the Court upheld the Commissioners’ decision concerning Former Presidents Koroma and Samura Kamara’s COI applications related to the Sewa Ground Market and the Sierra Rutile saga, respectively.
