"It is with great sorrow that we learned of the passing of Jama Kedie Elmi. He was a remarkable poet and a champion of peace and justice for the Somali people.

His poetry moved many souls, sparking a wave of creativity and expression among writers and artists. Sadly, he was killed by the Somaliland forces, who have taken too many innocent lives.

We ask Allah to grant him mercy and forgiveness, and to console his grieving family and friends. He will be dearly missed and cherished by all Somalis. May he rest in peace, Jama Kedie Elmi." Amen
