In light of the recent surge in Dengue fever cases and the concurrent increase in rainfall the Environmental Health Vector Control Unit is urging its residents to take immediate action to prevent mosquito breeding and protect public health. Dengue, a mosquito-borne viral infection, poses a significant threat, and proactive measures are crucial to curb its spread.
With the aim of reducing mosquito breeding grounds, the Environmental Health Department has launched a public awareness campaign to educate citizens on simple yet effective steps to minimize the risk of Dengue transmission. This campaign emphasizes the importance of community involvement and encourages everyone to adopt the following measures:
Mosquitoes breed in stagnant water. Residents are advised to regularly empty and clean containers such as flowerpots, buckets, and gutters to eliminate potential breeding sites.
Ensure that water storage containers are tightly covered to prevent mosquitoes from laying eggs.
Clear clogged gutters and ensure that drains are functioning properly to prevent water accumulation.
Protect yourself and your family by using mosquito nets while sleeping and applying insect repellent on exposed skin.
When outdoors, especially during dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active, wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants to reduce exposure.
Organize or participate in community clean-up drives to collectively reduce mosquito breeding sites in public spaces.
The Environmental Health Department is working closely within the Ministry of Health to conduct targeted mosquito control measures in high-risk areas.
The health and well-being of our residents are our top priorities. By taking proactive steps to eliminate mosquito breeding sites, we can collectively mitigate the impact of the Dengue outbreak. I urge everyone to participate in this community-wide effort and remain vigilant in preventing the spread of this disease.

What do you do when youโre feeling down?
CHOLERA is an acute diarrheal illness caused by infection of the intestine with Vibrio cholerae bacteria. People can get sick when they swallow food or water contaminated with cholera bacteria.
About 1 in 10 people with cholera will experience severe symptoms, which, in the early stages, include:
๏ปฟ๏ปฟprofuse watery diarrhea, sometimes described as๏ฟฝโข "rice-water stools" ๐ฉ
โข ๏ปฟ๏ปฟrestlessness or irritability ๐ค
Most persons infected with the cholera bacterium have mild diarrhea or no symptoms at all.
Only a small proportion, about 10%, of persons infected with Vibrio cholera 01 may have illness requiring treatment at a health center.
Cholera patients should be evaluated and treated quickly. With proper treatment, even severely ill patients can be saved.
