"F**k these dick heads, they won't be able to see me dead". Translation from the grandma who was evacuated after they were in more of a safe location...
I didn't get good videos, but our last evacuation in Kherson region was similar to this where we evacuated 2 babushkas, and 1 didushka who was in a wheel chair with only 1 leg. All the while during a massive artillery battle. There were cluster explosions that would shake our vehicle, massive explosions just around the corner of the city block we were on. Explosions that shake your bones and move the breath from your lungs. You're in site of the enemy on the other side who may just be curious enough to take a shot at a Humanitarian during all of this.

This is what many volunteers do on the front lines. We deliver aid, food, medicines, check in on people. And if nessecary and people are living in such a hot zone like this, we evacuate them.

Thank god for these heroes that risk their lives for others and don't ask for anything in return.

Russia held the city of at gunpoint and forced them to "vote" for annexation into Russia.

Russia plastered propaganda posters over the entire city, stating "Kherson is Russia Forever"... "Russians and Ukrainians Are One People"... and even went as far as posting posters with children wearing traditional Ukrainian clothing while waving the Russian flag.

Does Kherson look like it's part of the Russian Federation?
And do they look proud to be "annexed forever" by Russia?

I havent felt such life in a front line city such as the center of Kherson, it has definitely helped me with my motivation to see such a place filled with such joy, tears of happiness, defiance, and just utter.. humanity.

We are in Kherson.
Imagine a city of 80,000 people with barely any food, no water, electricity or heating.
Now imagine that it's incredibly difficult for help to get to them because of the terrible infrastructure, surrounded by minefields and Russians just outside.
We were in a convoy with World Central Kitchen to get here.

It's been called the happiest place on the planet after liberation, and they are. But imagine those people who are now free, completely. desperate. for food. for food.

We handed out thousands of food packets, people are so desperate they were fighting over food. A few riots almost broke out. Can you imagine that kind of desperation?

We need your help to get the help to these people now that we are here.
Where will your money go? Our #1 need is gas. We do everything and anything, and if we had thousands we could spend it all in a day on the humanitarian need. Basically, they need everything.

Please help. every amount helps. We will continue to travel into Kherson. Do you have questions? Do you know people who can help us? Please share this. tell people. tell your friends, family, your boss. Fundraise. Just share this.

This remembrance day, and the days leading up to this day, I have been thinking about all of the brave people throughout history, and the courageous heroes of today. From the Canadians that eternally rest in Flanders Fields to the Canadians actively fighting for freedom in eastern and southern Ukraine.

So many Canadians have laid down their lives in countries on the other side of the world, never to see their loved ones, or home again. And this is happening as we speak, in Ukraine.

Canadians, and other heroes from the around the world have volunteered to fight for a foreign and free country. And many of them have paid the ultimate price for freedom. And they did it with integrity. They did it without pay. They did it in harsh conditions. And they did it so that others wouldn't have to. Lest we forget.

And this remembrance week, our team took part in a TCCC course offered by foreign soldiers inside of Ukraine who train others to save lives, in order to save lives, so that people may survive this horrible war, and come out of it on the other side.

HERO Society and https://www.spilkavolonteriv.com/ took an amazing TCCC course courtesy of Trident Defense Initiative https://tridentdefenseinitiative.com/

They also graciously donated an IFAK to our team so that we may stay protected during our humanitarian efforts.

Here are some photos and video from the last few weeks. We were finally able to buy a cargo van which we are so so thankful for; we have been collaborating with other organizations to get aid to those in need; and also saw the return of JB who is now wearing a different hat as a member of the Press while he and our friend Joe Lindsley share what is happening in Ukraine with the outside world.

In the past week, we have received donations from old friends, new friends, family and etc.

I just want to say a really big thank you to all of you guys, you know who you are.

When I say that this money really goes a long way in helping in Ukraine, it is an understatement. You are all truly heros in my eyes, and on behalf of the people we help, I want to say thank you.

дуже дякую друзі!!!

Driving in the dark is dangerous in Ukraine. Today we are thankful that both Carson and Sofi are ok after they hit a tank trap after a sudden unsigned detour.

While cars can be replaced people cannot. They both have said they won't be driving after dark again.

Photos from HERO Society's post 09/10/2022

When operating in a war zone you have to be able to be fluid with your plans. On a recent delivery of medical supplies to a hospital in Donetsk Oblast, Carson and Vitaly ended up spending the night in the van in a levelled village. They ended up coming home with an extra little soul.

Everyone... meet "Donya".

"She just came up to us around sunset in the rubble of a village in Donetsk Oblast that a few weeks prior had seen a massive armor/infantry battle and as a result was basically reduced to nothing. Not a building was standing, and we didn't see any locals whatsoever.

This cat was very friendly and stayed with us all night and when Vitaly put her out she stayed by our car. We ended up taking her in the front cab with us all the way back. Almost certainly was a left behind pet. She is with us now in our apartment." - Carson

Since Ukraine has continuously liberated much of its land from the occupiers, we have been busy at work assisting others in any humanitarian way we can.

Lately our team has been going every day to the liberated areas around Kupyansk and villages beyond in order to help evacuate many elderly people, and people who have lost everything during Russian occupation. This work has been heartbreaking, yet very necessary. People do not want to leave their homes, but know that they must with the incoming winter, it is a very emotional experience when we help get them out of these areas and back to safety.

During this work, we have been working alongside and for other Ukrainian NGOS who organize this work, a big shout out to them for showing us the ropes. And also a big thank you to Task Force Yankee Ukraine for letting us use their vehicle, this wouldn't have been possible otherwise. And as always, thank you to people who donate in order to fuel the vehicles with diesel.

And a big kudos for our volunteers and friends, Lukas, Vitaly Gulden, Carson, and Illya Sharlay Yevgenovych for putting your lives on the line in order to help people in a very dangerous time and in extraordinarily bad circumstances, you guys really are heroes.

This week has been an emotional roller coaster for many supporters and volunteers inside and abroad of Ukraine. We know what has been happening from recent rocket strikes on the territories of Ukraine, and much of our team is affected by these terroristic acts of aggression.

However, our team muddles on and continues to do what we can do, to help the civilians affected by this war.

This week the majority of our team has been helping carry out evacuations on the east side of the river in Kupyansk, an incredibly dangerous and hard hit region of Ukraine.

When arriving to an apartment in order to help evacuate an entire family, which included 2 children, a mother, and the grandmother, which required a stretcher and ambulance for evacuation, a neighbour and family friend of this family began crying and took her ribbon baring the colors of Ukraine, and tied it to Carsons armour.

This act truly made me feel humbled, and I was happy to witness it.

Currently Kupyansk has no amenities, and is incredibly hard hit by the war. There are numerous bodies laying in the streets, and the civilians that decide to remain must burn wood outside to cook their food and keep themselves warm as the weather continues to get colder. All the while, the front line is only mere kilometers from them, and the fight for freedom continues.

*You can help us continue evacuations by donating via etransfer to [email protected]

This week, Carson, Lucas, and Vitaly have been supporting the World Central Kitchen with logistics in the Kharkiv Oblast.

Carson and Lucas have been inside Ukraine less than a week after returning from a short break in the US, and have already covered 100s of kilometers in logistics support for humanitarian aid in Ukraine.

We're all happy to support Ukraine however we can.

Welcome back, friends!

There was a demonstration today by the families of current prisoners of war in Ukraine, many are the families of soldiers that have been in captivity since the start of the war from Mariupol.

There are many families in Zaporizhzhia that are originally from occupied parts of Ukraine, and they are trying to stay strong for their brave mothers and fathers currently in terrible conditions in Russian prisons.

Many people in this gathering were crying, including people just walking by and realizing what these people were gathering and demonstrating for.

Not only is the mass death of Ukrainians from this war devastating for families, but also for families who have loved ones behind the Russian front line, and especially heart breaking for one's in current captivity.

Hope and fear: Canadian volunteer in Ukraine survives missile strikes after Russian retreat | CBC News 13/09/2022

Whenever I speak to people about how the war is going, I usually answer with, "it gets more dangerous everyday, it's not getting any better".

And now with the Ukrainian victories that have been taking place, this is still true, however at the same time, we are feeling a slight sense of joy, because we know that many people are being freed, and less Russians are in Ukraine, however at the same time, this is causing Russia to be more desperate and shoot at Ukraine even more wrecklessly with artillery.

This piece touches on some of those realities that my team and myself have been enduring over the past weeks.

Hope and fear: Canadian volunteer in Ukraine survives missile strikes after Russian retreat | CBC News The war in Ukraine hit uncomfortably close to home — literally — for Canadian volunteer Alex Nau when Russia unleashed a wave of retaliatory missile strikes in response to the lightning-swift advance of Ukrainian troops in the eastern part of the country.
