*xoffencesbill
Just yesterday, 3rd May 2021, The Parliament of Uganda passed the s*xual offences Bill 2019, in which homos*xuality, revenge p**n and s*x work are criminalized. But this has been passed with the penal code which criminalizes and prohibits same s*x acts is already in legislation.
Honourable Monicah Amoding moved this bill yet this bill puts the lives of the marginalized groups(LGBTIQA+ and s*x workers) in a very insecure and unsafe place, both physically and mentally. Are the human rights of marginalized groups affected by this bill really put into consideration? Or marginalized groups are just less human than Hon. Monicah Amoding!
Such a bill breeds a lot of hate, stigma and discrimination, something the movement has tried to curb down overtime. This hinders access to health services by the affected group.
To the Parliament of Uganda, do you ever think that marginalized groups are just human like you, your partners, your sons and your daughters?
To the activists, human rights defenders, leaders of the different entities involved in this fight for equality and equity across all sphere, let us not lose focus, let us keep our guards strong, and stay safe and sane for the community needs us.
To the different stakeholders, donors, Allies and different supporters of this cause, this is a time we need you the most.
President Joe Biden
So, our parliamentarians; in order to appease religious and cultural zealots proposed to;
1. Criminalize s*x work (for which I assure you more than half of them have partaken in some form or the other).
2. Criminalize Victims!! Yes Victims! Of revenge p**nography (which 100% of the time is done without a person's consent).
3.Criminalize Homos*xuality (an oldie but a goodie, just to rub it in).
Funny though, but there is a penal code that already covers pretty much all this.
But since they want y'all to stop talking about the tax hikes and they know religious people will jump up with frenzied excitement at the mention of laws about s*x, here we are.
Bana Mwesige
May your sacrifices this Ramadhan bring blessings and prosperity to you and your family! Ramadhan Kareem to all our Muslim community members!
Because it is mental health Monday at Out and Proud Uganda, and we believe that mental 'health is wealth'. Today we decided to talk about emotional abuse, which greatly affects the mental health of the victim. So here are 9 signs of an emotionally abusive partner to look out for;
1. Gas Lighting:
This allows the abuser to avoid responsibility y denying reality,
questioning the abuser spouse's sanity or lying. For example;
Calling you crazy for reminding them about something they said
they would do and assuring you that you never had that
conversation.
2. Retaliation:
A form of manipulation and control. An unhealthy twisting of what
appears upfront to be a boundary yet it's a core. Retaliation is
about punishment. Here the abuser says; "If you do X, I will do Y."
"If you go to lunch with the girls, I'll go to the strip club since I'll be
lonely.
3. Projection:
When an abuser accuses someone else of the negative
behaviours that themselves are actually doing. For example
Cheating
4. Invalidation or Dismissal of one's feelings:
Emotionally abusive partners say you are too needy, or whiny
when you reach out for support, saying things like " Get over it" or
"It could have been worse."
5. Manipulation and Ultimatums:
Emotionally abusive partners, at its severest may threaten su***de,
self-harm, or harming someone else if you try to end the relation
ship. They may also threaten blackmail. This behaviour is usually
an attempt to prevent you from leaving.
6. Mean jokes, humiliation and putdowns:
Emotional abusers may make fun of you, put you down, and
humiliate you in front of people. When you tell them that
something they said was offensive, they may say you are taking
things too seriously or being over sensitive.
7. Silent Treatment:
This is used as punishment. In some cases, a partner may still talk
to you but may act emotionally distant, treating you more like an
acquaintance than a romantic partner. In extreme cases, they may
leave you stranded somewhere or withhold things you need after
a fight.
8. Possessiveness and Jealousy:
Emotionally abusive partners frame their possessive feelings as
positive. However, in an abusive dynamic, this jealousy can turn
into controlling behaviour like; Always questioning what you were
doing, where you have been, and who you have been with and
isolating you from people you love.
9. Shifting Blame:
Emotionally abusive partners may blame you for their own harmful
behaviours. They may unfairly blame you for making them upset
and for ways that they treat you. For example; I cheated because
you made me angry.

What is PrEP?
Pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) is the use of anti HIV medicines that prevent HIV-negative people from getting HIV. PrEP works for both men and women, it comes in the form of a pill and it is taken once a day, with or without food.
Taken daily, PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV by more than 90%. The risk of getting HIV can be even lower if PrEP is used together with condoms and other prevention methods.
This information is powered by Out and Proud Uganda! Stay tuned for more information on PrEP.
Mental health refers to cognitive, behavioral, and emotional well being! It is all about how people think, feel, and behave.
Out and Proud Uganda today joins the whole wide world to commemorate the World Mental health day. We believe that Health is wealth, and a clear mental health is key for day to day activities.
A good mental health does not mean the absence of negative emotions. It includes a wide range of emotions, and it is just fine to feel sad, excited, anxious, frustrated, joyous and all those other episodes of emotions! They are normal fluctuations in the mood.
However, if a mood drags too long, CONFIDE!
Out and Proud Uganda prioritizes the health of every individual. We do understand that marginalized/key populations/Priority populations go through a lot of traumatizing and disturbing experiences which put their mental health at risk or at a disadvantage.
Our offices are open from Monday to Friday, from 9:30a.m to 5:00 p.m. Come confide in one of our counselors. Talk to them about anything, and everything. We are always happy to help!
