YOUR BLADDER!

The urinary bladder is a muscular sac in the pelvis, just above and behind the p***c bone. When empty, it is about the size and shape of a pear.

Urine is made in the kidneys and travels down two tubes called ureters to the bladder.
The bladder stretches to store urine. The normal capacity of the bladder is 400-600 mL.

During urination, the bladder muscles squeeze, and two sphincters (valves) open to allow urine to flow out. Urine exits the bladder through the urethra.
The urethra is longer in men (8 inches) than in women (1.5 inches).

CONDITIONS:

Some common bladder conditions may include;

-Cystitis: causing pain, discomfort, urinary frequency or hesitancy.

-Urinary stones: which can cause severe pain.

-Bladder cancer: A tumor in the bladder.

-Urinary incontinence: Uncontrolled urination

-Overactive bladder: causing some urine to leak out.

-Hematuria: Blood in the urine.

-Urinary retention: due to a blockage or suppressed bladder muscle activity.

-Cystocele: Weakened pelvic muscles (usually from childbirth) allow the bladder to press on the va**na.

-Bed-wetting (nocturnal enuresis):

-Dysuria: Pain or discomfort during urination.

TESTS:
-Urinalysis: Using a dipstick and microscope.
-Cystoscopy: A narrow tube is passed through the urethra and into the bladder.
-Urodynamic testing: A series of tests to measure urine flow, pressure and bladder capacity.

TREATMENTS:
Such as Cystoscopy, Catheterization, Anti-Spasm medications, Kegel exercises and Surgery.

Ladies, Chronic pain around the opening of your va**na in the area of your v***a?
This is called Vulvodynia.

*Causes: It isn’t known exactly what causes it. But there’s plenty you can do to ease the symptoms.
Self-care tips to control the pain.

*Clothing:
Wear white cotton underwear during the day and sleep without it at night to keep area cool and dry. Avoid tight-fitting skirts and pants 👖. When you swim or exercise, remove wet or sweaty clothing quickly.

*Laundry: 🗑️
The products you use to clean your clothes may irritate your va**nal area.

Use gentle detergent approved by dermatologists. Double-rinse underwear to make sure they’re free of soap or chemicals. Don’t use fabric softener.

*Personal Products:
Use a soft, white, unscented brand of toilet paper. Use only 100% cotton pads and tampons. Avoid scented, perfumed creams, soaps, and bubble bath.

*Bathing:
Use cool or lukewarm water and wash gently with your hand, then a clean towel to dry off. Keep shampoo, which can flow down from your head while showering, away from your va**nal area.

To create a barrier between your va**na and clothing, apply petroleum jelly to your v***a after showering.

Avoid hot tubs and highly chlorinated pools 🏊. Instead, soak in a sitz bath a few times a day for 5 to 10 minutes at a time

*Diet:
Processed foods, and those that have caffeine, acid, and lots of sugar can make symptoms worse. Try taking one thing out of your diet at a time. Keep track of how your body reacts.

Pressure on your bladder and bowel can cause vulvodynia to flare up. P*e regularly instead of waiting for your bladder to be full, and rinse the va**nal area with water afterwards to clean it off. Add fiber to your diet to help you stay regular.

*S*x:*
Protect yourself before s*x by applying a water-soluble lubricant. Avoid contraceptive creams and spermicides. If you want to temporarily numb the area, try a topical anesthetic, like lidocaine gel.

After s*x, p*e and rinse with cool or lukewarm water to clean around your va**na. If you feel a burning sensation, wrap a frozen ice cube/gel pack in a small towel and hold it gently on your va**na for a few minutes.

*Activities:
Focus on stretching and relaxation exercises, like yoga 🧘 instead of bike or horseback riding.

Stand as often as you can, especially if you work at a desk.

Donating blood? Make sure you eat properly beforehand, and get plenty of sleep:

09/08/2018

BREAKFAST; How important is it?

When you wake up, the blood sugar your body needs to make your muscles and brain work their best is usually low. Breakfast helps replenish that energy.

Breakfast also gives you a chance to get in some vitamins and nutrients from healthy foods like dairy, grains, and fruits. If you don’t eat it, you aren’t likely to get all of the nutrients your body needs.

Many people skip the a.m. meal because they’re rushing to get out the door. That’s a mistake. You need food in your system long before lunchtime.

Therefore, do not skip breakfast. A simple balanced breakfast can include fresh fruit or fruit juice, a high-fibre breakfast cereal, low-fat milk/yoghurt, wholewheat toast, and a boiled egg

Headache pain along with a stuffy, runny nose and itchy, watery eyes. Sounds like a sinus headache, right? Think again. More than 4 out of 5 people who think they have a sinus headache actually have a migraine.

A widespread misconception leads to treating a migraine like a sinus headache, or vice versa. It doesn't work.

Some common symptoms of sinus headaches and migraines include:

- Pain in the head, particularly the forehead
- Itchy or watery eyes
- Pain when you move

But migraines often happen with other symptoms, such as:
- Nausea or vomiting
- Sensitivity to sound or light
- Severe throbbing pain on one side of the head

A migraine is usually to blame in people who have severe headaches that happen often.

Sinus headaches are usually caused by an infection and inflammation of the nasal passages hence congestion leading to pain and pressure in the forehead and behind the cheekbones.

Treatments:
For sinus headaches, decongestants, pain relievers, and nasal irrigation helps ease sinus pressure and congestion.
Antibiotics or nasal steroids are often a second line of attack to treat the underlying infection.

A sinus headache caused by an infection should go away soon after you start treatment. Avoid overuse of analgesics.

Migraine treatment is about preventing them and reducing how often you get them, how long they last, and how severe they are. Drugs called 'Triptans' ease pain.
Women who have migraines linked to their menstrual cycles might get a prescription for hormone therapy.

Exercise and relaxation -- may also keep migraines away and make them less severe. Learn the things that can trigger your headaches and avoid them.

Make an appointment with your doctor if your headaches interfere with your daily life or don't get better with over-the-counter medications.
