16 weeks out for my first NPC Figure Comp. I am keeping myself accountable and the cut is going pretty good. I have started taking photos to compare at a later time but for now just keeping my eye on the prize and keeping y’all informed!

The following is an actual conversation I had earlier this evening.

Random FB DM: So, what are you doing on this Friday night?

Me: What I do most Friday nights…gym

Them: you don’t go out and do something fun?

Me: What do you mean by that?

Them: why would you go to the gym on a Friday night? Friday nights are for relaxing and forgetting about the stress of the week. You’re supposed to have FUN on Friday. You know, Fun Friday?

Me: Exactly why I am at the gym.

Them: Are you really at the gym or just putting me off?

Me: Gym

Them: I don’t believe you.

Me: snaps a picture in the gym bathroom and screenshots it from pictures showing the timestamp.

Them: Oh ok. That’s cool

Me: delete. Reason-disturbing the peace on a Friday night when I am trying to destress.

SO proud of my girl, Diana, for taking second place today with an AMAZING time! She pushed through WAY faste than the average woman and didn’t bat and eye! This was my first and I didn’t do as well as I had wanted but that won’t stop me from doing better next time! Cheers to our friends and coaches Felicia and Dawn, as well as TPL Spartan Race/DEKA Crew!

I am looking forward to competing this year for the first time! I have two amazing coaches and am at a point in my life that I am doing something for ME!

I have spent the majority of my life doing things/supporting others in their dreams/goals (which I don’t regret cause I love to see people succeed) and now it is my turn. I am more confident than I have been in many years and learning to be BOLD! This is a year of MANY “firsts” for me!

So my daughter, Jules, keeps sharing amazing books with me. This one is “Badass Affirmations” by Becca Anderson. I loved this week’s affirmations so much I had to clip parts for your enjoyment as well.

Early morning pondering: when preparing for your first competition in your 50’s, it feels really good when not one, but two super young trainers at the gym you work at compliment your arms and actually say they watch you workout and want your upper body.

This was especially good for me yesterday because I am already experiencing body dysmorphia and stressing that I will be ready. I have a LOT of time to prepare but I am unfamiliar with the process and still fight all my learned insecurities. Will it be easy? No. Will it be worth it? Stay tuned.

Was it easy? Not always, but I learned just how mentally strong I really am. After years of being told and admired for my strength, I never saw it; but now I get it. I used to think God gave me strength that I didn’t possess; not I know that He equipped me with it so long as I trust Him. I am grateful for the gifts my Father created me with. He still gets the glory, I just realized that I can accept the compliment. Blessings all. More to come in the new year.

So, I didn’t bring home a trophy this weekend; but I did learn a lot, had some fun, and believe I could win this event in the future. I am grateful for the opportunity and especially to be able to say I competed and olaced 4th in the very first USSA Texas Steinholding State Championship.

This is it!! Our Abilene Steinholding champs (Nathan Ruelas and Lora Cottle) are heading to the state championship to rep Grain Theory in Fredricksburg tomorrow! We had so much fun hosting this event and are so proud of our champions! Best of luck this weekend! Prost! 🍻
