On July 13th, our great country witnessed an egregious act of political violence. The attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump ultimately failed, and we are thankful to God that his life was spared. As Donald Trump said in a recent statement, it was “God alone who prevented the unthinkable from happening.” We believe this to be true, for not even a leaf falls to the ground but by the will of God.

It is our prayer that this tragic event causes Trump to continue to look toward heaven, even as he seeks again to lead our nation. Sadly, life was lost that day. Let us pray for the family of Corey Comperatore, who was killed as a result of this act of violence. And let us pray also for the recovery of David Dutch and James Copenhaver, who were both seriously injured.

In this increasingly tumultuous political context, we, as Christians, have a unique opportunity to be as salt, which preserves, and light, which dispels darkness. Let us pray earnestly for our leaders, regardless of political affiliation, and for our nation. Let us seek that which is true, honorable, and just. And let us speak the truth in love, that the good may abound within this nation, and to the ends of the earth.
