A beautiful picture to illustrate an ugly problem. — When accomplished independent patient advocates earn more than most hospitalists, that should scream that our healthcare system is not working for patients. The minimization of physicians working as hospital employees has resulted in detrimental effects on patients and physicians (as well as entire healthcare teams.) — Soul Sherpa (R) Healthcare Advocacy Services has embarked upon a PROACTIVE mentoring program, SOUL SHERPA (R) STRATEGIC SOLUTIONS (TM) to assist independent patient advocates to become more effective and in greater demand. — Originally we mentored our colleagues reactively (in response to patients’ problems.) Due to ongoing unfair, undisclosed, and unethical healthcare business practices — allowed due to the inaction/unwillingness of our elected officials to do what is right for their constituents, courtesy of the healthcare lobby — SOUL SHERPA (R) STRATEGIC SOLUTIONS (TM) is pre exempting additional future barriers to healthcare access and ongoing lack of cost constraints already in sight (aka strategic planning.) Our mentoring programs develop and hone our colleagues’ analytical, strategic, and leveraging skill sets. SOUL SHERPA (R) continues to raise the bar. No individual in a humane society should have to fight for appropriate healthcare.

If you are in need of a ORGAN DONOR (most commonly kidney, heart, and lung) there is an unspoken process involved that no one at an organ transplant center will tell you. Organ transplants are BIG BUSINESS for medical centers, especially those who are the best established. A savvy patient advocate can fully inform you and your loved ones how the organ transplant process FULLY works. It’s more than insurance coverage and current health status. After working on several of these cases across the country my eyes were opened to how a transplant candidate can increase their odds of receiving his/her needed organ. Example #1-If a patient is in need of a kidney, while he/she waits and waits for a donor, its also wise to conduct a personal search for a living donor match. No transplant center will tell you this. Example #2- The paperwork involved in maintaining employment benefits is a nightmarish maze that even a healthy person would have difficulty navigating. No patient in need of an organ transplant should EVER have to deal with this deliberate challenge. — There are patient advocates who can help increase the odds of receiving an organ transplant before it’s too late and before you find yourself in financial debt. I’m grateful to those past clients who have entrusted me to steer their organ transplant journey.

About Lisa Berry Blackstock


Lisa Berry Blackstock is a private patient advocate in national practice since 2008. A medical misdiagnosis and mistreatment in 2007 forced Lisa to become her own best advocate as she sought an answer to her painful medical problem: electric shocks to her face. Lisa’s mystery ailment turned out to be trigeminal neuralgia, a rare nerve disorder that could be resolved only with major brain surgery. Surviving this ordeal one year later caused Lisa to close her estate administration business of 18 years and embark upon helping other vulnerable patients and their loved ones. SOUL SHERPA (R) HEALTHCARE ADVOCACY SERVICES (soulsherpa.net) assists hundreds of clients across the country. Lisa’s work covers a wide spectrum of services: patient accompaniment, hospital discharge oversight, medical billing negotiation, insurance appeals, advanced healthcare and life care planning, and end-of-life support. Lisa is a graduate of Stanford University and is certified as a hospice and palliative care counselor.
