Excellent day. 28 jalapeño bacon dove breasts, 42 cheese burgers and 31 dogs. Great to spend some time with the guys.

Been a slow start to the new school year with construction ect…. We are having a BBQ today for all the guys that didn’t go home for the holiday. I will post some pictures later.
The schedule is not final for the second half of our year when we return from Christmas but here is what we have before the break.
Otero there November 1, Western Nebraska at home on November 5, Lamar Varsity there November 9 and Air Force Academy Prep there November 13.
I gotta get back to the grill more to come.

The Varsity tryout date has been set for April 23rd. I have gone through and met individually with each of the young men at their scheduled times and gone over what their strengths and opportunities so that they know what to expect and what they can do to be prepared for the tryouts. With the NCAA giving everyone their year of eligibility back, roster spots all over the nation are going to be at a minimum.

EVO player of the year came down to a three way tie between Darnell Kindred, Justice Rogers and Jett Firenze. Unfortunately Darnell had to go into quarantine so Justice and Jett went head to head in three contests. Justice took the one on one, Jett won the Game Shot contest leaving it up to the free throw showdown. Congratulations to Jett Firenze for capturing the EVO Player of the Year and getting to sign the ball one more time and taking it home for his shelf!

We were trying to get one more game in but unfortunately we are not going to get Colorado College or Otero in this season. Since spring sports are now fully underway and the RMAC Basketball tournament is next week our season has come to a close. Thank you all for your support throughout this COVID season. I will schedule individual meetings with all the guys and hopefully they will want to take part in the Varsity tryouts here on campus tentatively scheduled for mid April pending any changes due to COVID.
It has been an honor and a privilege to work with this group of young men.

We are scheduled for our next COVID test tomorrow morning. Again if all goes well we will be cleared to play in Lamar Friday night. Traditionally Lamar live streams the games so I will get more info on that so that if you would like you can see the game without the breaks.

Still no posting of game film by Air Force Coach. I will post link as soon as he sends it over.
Been almost 24 hours to reflect and replay in my mind. I don’t like to give reaction without decompressing. We played tentatively as a whole. Air Force was very aggressive and it forced some of our guys to hesitate and do things out of the framework of what we are trying to do. When we settled into the game situation and ran our stuff they looked really good. They now understand the level of intensity that we need to go after each other in practice. We were within 12 to 15 in the second half and had them on the ropes. I made some bad substitution combinations that allowed them to stretch it out. All in all not a bad first live game at this level. Still on for next Friday at Lamar against their varsity. Special thank you to the Valdez family for the meal.
