A very bittersweet moment, captured at tonight’s alumni reception at Hearst Tower in NYC. A big “thank you” to all the former Purple and Gold Student Ambassadors who attended the event and took the time to wish Melissa Samuels a happy retirement before she bids farewell to the University as director of alumni programs. Melissa’s last day is tomorrow, so please join us in congratulating her for all of her accomplishments in the last 26 years!

The Juneteenth Scholarship was established in 2020 by Bria McKiver ’18, MA ’20, and current GOLD committee member Jorge Chacon ’19. It is awarded to UAlbany students through the President’s Leadership Awards.

The Garden of Remembrance, located outside of Draper Hall, includes three Veterans Memorial Plaques dedicated to the UAlbany community members who served in the Civil War, WWI and WW2. Today we remember all veterans who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving this great country. 🇺🇸

Ericka Vacaflores ’22, disaster preparedness specialist for American Red Cross Eastern New York, will share her expertise in saving lives and building resilient communities Monday, April 8 at noon in the Campus Center. Ericka, who grew up in South America and also serves on the Red Cross’ Latino Engagement Team, holds a degree in Emergency Preparedness from the College of Emergency Preparedness, Homeland Security, and Cybersecurity. Monday's program is sponsored by UAlbany's Red Cross Club, which helps support monthly blood drives on campus and helps recruit students for Red Cross community volunteer opportunities. All are welcome to attend.

Later this week, University President Havidán Rodríguez will be honored with the Humanitarian Spirit Award at the annual Fire & Ice Gala on April 12 at the Albany Capital Center. The award recognizes an individual, group or organization that embodies the spirit of humanitarianism personified by American Red Cross founder, Clara Barton, in her mission to put others before herself. Welcome back to campus, Ericka, and congratulations, President Rodríguez!

The 4th Annual Albany Film Festival is this weekend!

4th Annual Albany Film Festival to Bring Film Lovers to Campus The New York State Writers Institute will host the 4th annual Albany Film Festival at UAlbany this Saturday, giving film lovers a chance to see screenings by aspiring student filmmakers and acclaimed directors, as well as panel discussions with industry professionals.

We are excited to welcome New York state judge and UAlbany alumnus Seth Marnin '92, '94, to campus on February 13 as a featured guest in our Leading Questions discussion series!

Marnin became the first out transgender judge in New York and the first transgender man on the bench anywhere in the U.S. when he was appointed to the Court of Claims last summer by Gov. Kathy Hochul.

The event is open to all and will run from 6:30-7:30 p.m. in the Campus Center West Auditorium.
