THE NEW YORK BAR FOUNDATION NOW ACCEPTING GRANT APPLICATIONS – APPLY BY SEPTEMBER 15
The New York Bar Foundation is pleased to announce that it is now accepting on-line applications for its 2025 grant program. Interested applicants can submit their proposals through the grant portal until midnight on September 15, 2024. You can find the guidelines and application at https://www.tnybf.org/grants-scholarships/
“The Foundation is committed to advancing justice and supporting innovative legal initiatives. For more than seventy years, we have awarded grants to nonprofit legal organizations dedicated to making a meaningful impact in their communities,” said Foundation President, Justice Cheryl E. Chambers. “We encourage you to apply for our grants and join us in fostering a more equitable and accessible legal system.”
In 2025, the Foundation will prioritize its grantmaking efforts on funding civil legal services programs that assist low-income individuals with essential needs. This encompasses access to education and health, family matters, racial and gender equity, housing assistance, small business development, and legal support for veterans.
“Our impact is profound as we empower organizations to leverage our grants for additional funding, initiate programs that address critical legal needs and provide essential services,” said Lucia Whisenand, Chair of the Foundation’s Grants Review Committee.
The Foundation is one of few organizations that provide law-related grants to non-profit organizations throughout New York State. These grants support programs that provide legal assistance to the most vulnerable New Yorkers with unmet legal needs.
“Lawyers play a pivotal role in society,” said June Castellano, Vice-Chair of the Foundation’s Grants Review Committee. “Their expertise and dedication uphold justice and support the community in many ways. We extend our gratitude to our donors and volunteers, most of whom are lawyers, whose generous contributions makes this vital work possible.”

Thank you Vincent Doyle Connors LLP for your gift to the Family Matters campaign in honor of Maryann Saccomando Freedman.
Vincent shared, "Maryann was a pioneer in the legal profession, breaking barriers as the first female president of the Erie County Bar, and then of the New York State Bar. Her legacy of courage and commitment continues to inspire and empower aspiring lawyers throughout the state. She was also a friend, mentor and member of my extended “family.” Maryann was remarkably devoted to family, and to the work of the New York Bar Foundation, which she served and supported throughout her career. In light of this, I feel a contribution to the Foundation’s “Family Matters” campaign is one small way to honor her."
