Today, I joined with the MVP Health Care to announce an exciting new event supported by the Innovative Partnership. "Symphony Side-by-side" is a family-friendly event that will provide a unique opportunity for high school and college students in the Empire State Youth Orchestra (ESYO) to rehearse and perform with the Grammy Award-winning Albany Symphony orchestra at MVP Arena. It is a wonderful celebration of the uniting power of music, and is a prime example of how the Innovative Partnership can bring community organizations together to reach new audiences.

We have a solemn responsibility to protect the health and wellbeing of our children, especially from the dangers of ni****ne addiction, lung disease, and the other long-term health consequences of to***co and va**ng usage. That is why we announced the QUIT Using Inhalants & To***co (QUIT) Act that will allow us to restrict underage access by enacting a to***co retail licensure requirement while also increasing to***co and substance use prevention education in schools. We must work together with parents, educators, and community partners, to prevent these dangerous habits from taking root.

Ever wonder which roads are maintained by Albany County? In an effort to keep the community informed, I want to share with you a comprehensive list of all County routes within our jurisdiction! Knowing the distinction helps when you’re reporting issues or seeking improvements. Any roadways not on this list are maintained by either your local municipality (cities, towns, etc.) or New York State DOT in the case of State highways.

I am happy to announce that New York State has awarded Albany County a grant totaling $1,856,000 to provide no to low-cost swimming programs for the general public. This grant will help Albany County to re-open the Cohoes Aquatic Center, increasing programming for our children, elders, at-risk community members, and the general public. I thank Governor Kathy Hochul for her continued efforts to improve public health and safety through this innovative program and thank you to Assemblymember John McDonald for his support.

Today, I held a press conference to highlight the successes of Albany County’s Stop-Arm School Bus Safety Program. The Bethlehem Central School District has experienced a significant decrease in incidents. While there is still more work to be done, this is a strong indicator that education works. I also announced three new initiatives that will use a portion of the revenue generated to protect our students in other creative ways. With the beginning of the school year just around the corner, it is crucial to remain vigilant for stopped buses. Remember, when school bus lights are flashing, EVERYONE in ALL lanes must stop. That’s the law.
