I woke up early this morning, as I do most days. I stretched my legs, sore from all the walking I’ve been doing lately and in anticipation of this morning’s Run for Vets, which I get to do with two of my sons. Later, I’m going to sit with my wife, who is the smartest, kindest and best person I know to watch our youngest play in a baseball game. I live a blessed life, and on my birthday I always take an extra minute to appreciate all that I have.

I celebrate my birthday during Memorial Day Weekend. I know I get to live this life because of the ultimate sacrifice paid by my brothers and sisters in arms. As Abraham Lincoln said, “that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion.” To live, and participate, in a democracy and demand accountability when our elected leaders have failed us. To be part of a society that celebrates those who would guard the rights of others instead of demonizing the powerless and their protectors.

I have fought for my country, I have fought for my clients and I promise to continue to fight for the people of Albany County.
