Postmarked sixty years ago tomorrow on June 21, 1964, this letter was Andrew "Andy" Goodman's last correspondence with his parents. Hours after mailing his postcard, Andy, along with James Earl Chaney and Michael Schwerner, were murdered at the hands of Neshoba County Sherrif Cecil Price and the Ku Klux Klan.
The postcard reads: "Dear Mom and Dad, I have arrived safely in Meridian, Mississippi. This is a wonderful town and the weather is fine. I wish you were here. The people in this city are wonderful and our reception was very good. All my love, Andy."

Celebrating at the UNM School of Law Library! Per the POTUS's 2024 Juneteenth proclamation, "On June 19, 1865, freedom finally came for the 250,000 enslaved people of Texas. That day, which would become known as Juneteenth, the Army arrived to enforce what had already been the law of the land for two and a half years — the Emancipation Proclamation. Today, we recognize that Juneteenth not only marks the end of America’s original sin of slavery but also the beginning of the work at the heart and soul of our Nation: making the promise of America real for every American."
Check out the POTUS's proclamation, as well as amazing historic Juneteenth photos, via the links below.

Today marks the seventieth anniversary of the United States Supreme Court’s May 17, 1954, decisions in Brown v. Board of Education and its companion cases.
Thanks to the "Brown, revisited" project, you can now hear the words of then-NAACP Legal Defense Fund Director-Counsel Thurgood Marshall, Chief Justice Warren, and other lawyers and justices as they were spoken in the Brown v Board of Education and companion cases.
The “Brown Revisited” project has used 1950s texts, actors, historic audio recordings of Brown case protagonists, and voice-cloning technology to recreate actual Brown voices speaking their historic Brown words. Here is the project website: https://brown.oyez.org/home/. Here is a video that explains the voice-cloning process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RpBFyPm1OEY.

On UNM's podcast this week ---- A high school student’s bedroom was scanned while taking a class exam and after teachers saw a can of spray paint, he was accused of graffitiing a wall at the school. Was that decision just or were the student’s rights violated? High schoolers in the Marshall-Brennan Constitutional Literacy Project have spent the past year working with students at the UNM School of Law to answer this hypothetical question. In just one week, they’ll travel to Washington D.C. to compete and argue in a national moot court competition. You can hear more about it on this week’s episode of our It’s (Probably) Not Rocket Science podcast, available wherever you get your podcasts.
