One common myth about green burials is that green burial providers are difficult to find. While it’s true that not all cemeteries are set up for natural burials, the landscape is rapidly changing. Across the country, more and more cemeteries are recognizing the growing demand for sustainable funeral options and are adapting to include green burial practices. Additionally, dedicated natural burial grounds are becoming increasingly common, offering spaces that entirely embrace eco-friendly principles 🌿

These burial sites not only respect the environmental ethos but also provide a serene and natural resting place that aligns with the values of individuals who seek a return to simplicity and nature in their final farewell.

If you’re considering a green burial, know that the options are expanding, with many cemeteries now providing choices that honor both the earth and the unique lives of the departed. Let’s continue to dispel the myths and embrace the realities of green burial options 🌿

Aquamation, or alkaline hydrolysis, offers a gentle, eco-friendly alternative to traditional flame cremation, returning 20-30% more "ashes". This method uses water and alkali to accelerate natural decomposition, preserving more bone structure than flame cremation, which often vaporizes significant bone matter due to intense heat.

Why is receiving more ashes beneficial? It allows families the option to divide the ashes among members, providing a way for everyone to participate in the memorial process. Our scattering tube kits make it easy for families to distribute a loved one’s ashes and scatter them across multiple meaningful locations, enhancing the healing experience 💚

Choose Aquamation to honor your loved one with care for the planet and a fuller return of remains, ensuring a lasting legacy across cherished sites 🌿

In the world of funeral services, there are varying 'shades of green'—each representing the environmental impact of our choices 🌿

Traditional burials will leave the heaviest carbon footprint. Moving a step greener, cremation with a traditional urn reduces some impact, yet it's still not as green as it could be. But what about using an eco-friendly casket? It’s greener, but if you drive 12 hours to pick it up, its environmental benefit is lessened—yet, it remains a more sustainable option than a conventional burial 🚗

At Passages, we encourage taking steps towards sustainability, no matter how small. Even a choice that seems less green can still contribute positively compared to traditional methods. Every step towards a greener farewell helps us protect our planet for future generations 🌎

As we face a future with limited burial space, it's vital to consider how our choices today affect tomorrow's world. With traditional burials often requiring large plots and resource-heavy materials, alternative end-of-life methods like cremation should be considered. The cremation rate in the U.S. is expected to reach 81.4% by 2045, reflecting a growing preference for simpler, more sustainable options 🌿

Passages International offers a range of eco-friendly products to accommodate this shift. From biodegradable urns and scattering tubes, to eco-friendly caskets and coffins, these products provide a beautiful, dignified way to memorialize loved ones while caring for our planet 💚🌎

In the face of a rapidly changing world, our choices even in departure speak volumes about our values. A recent survey by Choice Mutual reveals a significant lean towards eco-friendly and alternative funeral practices among Americans 🌿 This shift is not just about choosing sustainability, it's about creating more meaningful end-of-life ceremonies that resonate with personal and environmental values.

Traditional burials—with their resource-heavy coffins and embalming chemicals—are making way for greener alternatives. From biodegradable caskets nestled in natural burial sites to innovative tree pod burials and coral reef memorials, these options reflect a growing desire to return to the earth in a way that nourishes it 🌱💚

Today is National Love A Tree Day and we did just that for one of our in-office Biotree Urns! As we progressed farther into Spring, we knew that our tree would start growing soon. We patiently cared for the tree until we noticed a crack! The tree itself was still bare, but we didn't give up! We continued to care for it until it started showing more and more green 🌳💚

We are proud to be featured in a recent article discussing the forward-thinking initiatives at M. John Scanlan Funeral Home in New Jersey, where they have embraced our biodegradable urns! These urns represent a small yet significant shift towards sustainability in the funeral industry ♻️

Kiera Scanlan-Wespestad, the owner-managing director, chose our urns to offer families a more dignified option for their loved ones' cremated remains. These urns, beautifully designed and environmentally friendly, align perfectly with the growing trend of green funerals. They are not only a testament to honoring life but also to protecting our planet 🌎

This initiative is a great example of how thoughtful details can deeply resonate with families and inspire wider changes within the industry. It's a reminder that every small step towards sustainability counts and can lead to broader, positive impacts on our environment 🍃

There's a common misconception that green burials risk having bodies exhumed by animals 💀 However, the reality is quite different. With green burials typically occurring at depths of 3–4 feet, there's a sufficient layer of soil above the body to act as a smell barrier, making it undetectable to animals. The Green Burial Council confirms that there have been no cases of animals disturbing graves. Moreover, the shallower grave depth enhances decomposition, as beneficial organisms in the upper soil layers can more effectively do their work 🌱 Green burials, therefore, are designed to harmonize with nature, not to disturb it 🌎
