I’m SO EXCITED to be collaborating with pianist extraordinaire, Laura Ward, and my baritone brother-from-another-mother, Levi Hernández , once again in this beautiful concert. A quote by Lotte Lehman - Geneva - 1933:
“I am an artist, nothing but an artist.
I have the marvelous privilege of living in a land where there is only beauty.
I know the miraculous power of music to unite people, to lift them above themselves, to let them forget their shabby disputes.
In the presence of art there are no enemies, no borders, no political parties. There are only human beings who suffer, and look for the light.”
It had been a while since I shared that quote. It encapsulates everything I believe in when it comes to what I do. ❤️

Rehearsals for CARMEN en Español are well underway here at Opera Southwest!
However, we are still on a journey down memory lane.
My Madison Opera debut was in 2017. I was a guest soloist for their Opera in the Park and then returned that same season to sing Micaëla in their production of Carmen: directed by E. Loren Meeker and conducted by John DeMain! My Don José, pictured here, was the fantastic tenor, Sean Panikkar Aww!! What a fun group! My Samoan Ben, Alex, Corey, todos… ¡BESOTES! 💋
There are 6 opportunities to see us here in Albuquerque, friends. Be sure to head on over to OPERASOUTHWEST.ORG to get your tickets! 🎟️
A trip down the CARMEN MEMORY LANE. ✨
My first professional production of CARMEN is one I’ll never forget.
🌀2016 Micaëla in CARMEN at Detroit Opera ()—formerly Michigan Opera Theatre. I even snagged a photo with Dr. DiChiera, himself. What an amazing person and legend he was! Fun fact: I have a voicemail from him that I will NEVER erase. 📱
That production was double cast with Ginger Costa-Jackson () and Sandy Eddy () as my Carmens, and my Don Joses were Alok Kumar () and Argentinian tenor, Marcelo Puente ()!
Our conductor was el gran Maestro Valerio Galli, and our director was Ron Daniels ()! What fun times and what a great show. ❤️🔥
Sending hugs to everyone involved in that production, wherever you may be. 💕
Estamos en el presente, así que, Albuquerque, be sure to get your hands on some tickets to ’s production of CARMEN en Español. We also have 2️⃣ Carmens and Pepes in our production. Come check it out! There are 6️⃣ performances. ¡Vengan a vernos, Burque! Carmen en español es algo que no se ve muy seguido. Compren sus boletos pera ¡YA!

¡Hola, chicos! I’m back!
Though I had a brief social-media-hiatus, I’ve been busy working on other things: helping mom with her restaurant, preparing music, teaching, meetings, getting ready for the UNLV Hall of Fame Gala 🤯, and getting super excited to be giving a MASTER CLASS at my Alma Mater, ! I’m so thrilled to be returning for such a special honor—one I get to share with my UNLV family and my mom.
I’m also so, so giddy to be able to work with the students/new faces that walk the same hallways where my friends and I created so many wonderful memories and put in so much work. Those were the days. Class of 2011! 🥳
The Master Class is open to the public, Vegas. If you’re free April 3rd at 1pm, swing by. It’ll be fun! Prepare your questions, kiddos. I’ll be ready to answer them. Thank you, UNLV, for this opportunity.
PS: Yes, Rupert. Mom will be opening her restaurant soon. Hang tight. 🌮

Coming up next: UNLV College of Fine Arts HALL OF FAME!
Nope. Lo veo, lo leo, y todavía no la creo. 🤯
If someone would have told me as a little kid, working in the fields with my mom and older brother, that I’d be receiving this honor, I wouldn’t have believed it. My cup, truly, runneth over. After all these years, after all of the ups and downs, failures and successes, the hard work, the dedication pays off. I’ll say it again, MI AMÁ TENÍA RAZÓN. Gracias, ma. Thank you, , for this tremendous honor and for permitting me to share this with my close friends, my adopted-Vegas-family, and my mom.
This is event is open to the public, Las Vegas, but I hear it has SOLD-OUT! I could be wrong, though. Be sure to check out the website to obtain more information. https://www.unlv.edu/finearts/hall-of-fame

📰 Review for Roméo et Juliette with Opera Idaho. 👀
“The cause for rejoicing must begin with the fact that almost all of the top-notch soloists were making highly successful role debuts including tenor Ben Gulley and soprano Cecilia Violetta Lopez, who singly and together, sang radiantly in the title roles.
…His [Ben Gulley’s] masterful traversal was equaled by the accomplishment of our Juliette, as convincingly embodied by Ms. Lopez. Even at this first stab (pun not quite intended) at this wide-ranging heroine, the soprano is almost beyond praise. There is nothing about this gob smacked, impressionable teenager that eludes her. She has a silvery soprano that can float and enchant one minute, and in another she can pour out full-bodied, impassioned declarations as dictated by the dramatic moment.
This cherishable soprano is second to none in her uncanny ability to personify defeated grief, and her many-colored Poison Aria unfolded inexorably as a model of dramatic revelation. Based on this auspicious “first attempt,” I predict Cecilia Violetta López is poised to become Operadom’s Juliette “of choice,” on a par with her widespread acclaim as Verdi’s Violetta.”
Thank you, Opera Today!
May this be the first of many. ❤️
Bravi to everyone involved! 🙌🏽

Dear R&J clan,
What a ride! I’m sitting in the quiet of my home with piles of laundry and mail staring at me, but wanted to take a moment to express my sincere gratitude to all of you who made ROMÉO ET JULIETTE come to life.
First of all, thank you to the Opera Idaho staff for your relentless hard work behind the scenes. Your efforts are not lost on me. Thank you for doing your part in making R&J come to fruition. I think of you always, and am always rooting for you, individually, and as a whole! Go, team!
To our chorus/ members, thank you for being so committed to a beautiful story in more ways than one. I know you all are balancing personal lives, jobs, school, etc., so having the privilege of sharing the stage with all of you is not something I’ll soon forget. A quick shoutout to Nik —thank you for all of the memories, my friend. Have fun in Brazil! 🇧🇷
Thank you to the entire cast (and BRAVI!), orchestra, crew, costumes, makeup (I see you, Amanda!), Maestro Andy and Jennifer for being a part of the magic that OI brings to the community. Thank you to Mr. Junkert for entrusting me with yet another role debut.
My family, I love you. THANK YOU for always being so supportive of my work and helping me in ways you might even know. ❤️
To our friends, music lovers, those who drove in from RUPERT, OI board members, patrons, new opera-goers, THANK YOU for supporting our work. It takes a village to put an opera on its feet. We are so grateful we were able to share the fruits of our labour with all of you.
No mics, beautiful music, lots of hours of practice and memorizing a story in French, man-power building sets, dancing, making sure costumes fit, the blood packs, the storytelling…. we do it all for YOU, Treasure Valley. Gracias por apoyarnos a todos.
This former farm worker from Rupert, Idaho will never stop saying this: OPERA IS FOR EVERYONE. ❤️
➡️ Next up: Denver, CO next weekend for an *opera first* for me. Stay tuned.
