Central Louisiana Medical Psychology Clinic
Medical Psychology Clinic specializing in evaluation, therapy, and medication management.
Please join us in congratulating Ashley on passing her final licensure exam as a social worker. In order to become a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW), a master’s level social worker must complete 3,000 supervised hours of patient care and pass a grueling exam. We are so proud of Ashley and are grateful to have her on the CLMPC team!!
Dr. Stokes was an invited speaker at the Rotary Club meeting yesterday and presented on Promoting Employee Mental Health Post Covid. Thank you to the Rotary Club of Alexandria for this opportunity and congratulations to all the Paul Harris Award recipients!
After the quarterly therapist meeting, we celebrated Dr. Stokes on receiving her Advanced Practice Certificate. There are only roughly 50 medical psychologists in Louisiana with this certificate.
When asked about the significance of this certificate, Dr. Stokes said:
“Louisiana is one of the only states that has practicing medical psychologists. There is no other profession that can provide the depth of psychological knowledge, coupled with expertise in medical and medication treatment. Medical psychologists are in a unique position to comprehensively evaluate a patient’s ENTIRE health and develop a treatment plan that can include testing, therapy, and/or medication. I am blessed with an amazing team of staff and providers with expertise across the lifespan. There is truly no other clinic like us in Cenla and we feel privileged to provide this care. This advanced practice certificate represents years of hard work and practice and allows me to provide more independent care to all of our patients.
P.S. Dr. Q, I did it! Thank you for everything.”
Please join us in welcoming our newest team member, Emily Coburn! Emily recently graduated with her degree in Psychology from LSUA and we scooped her up fast! She is ready to answer your phone calls, schedule appointments, and assist with our patient portal. She is an extremely fast learner and Dr. Stokes has big plans for her growth within the clinic. She always greets you with a smile and is ready to help. Our patients, staff, and providers are so appreciative of her assistance. Welcome to the CLMPC family, Emily!!
We will reopen on Wednesday, January 17th. If you would like to change to a telehealth appointment, please call our office first thing in the morning.
Stay safe and warm!
Out of an abundance of caution for our staff, providers, and patients, CLMPC will be closed Monday and Tuesday due to inclement weather.
Please stay safe and warm!
CLMPC is closing today at 3:30 due to inclement weather.
Drs. Underhill, Vaught, and Stokes provide comprehensive neurocognitive testing for memory concerns, dementias, and Alzheimer’s disease. We work closely with your primary care provider and neurologist to develop a treatment plan and our counselors provide supportive family centered treatment to assist you and your loved one during this challenging time.
Mrs. Benoit is trained in Parent Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT) which is a behavioral treatment for children who have adjustment difficulties, anxiety, ADHD, and behavioral difficulties such as those from sensory processing disorder or language disorders.
This treatment is unique in that it offers live coaching using clinic technology that allows parents to practice these specialized parenting skills with their children, while Mrs. Benoit observes them on camera from another room and provides feedback and help through earbuds.
CLMPC is the only clinic in Central and Northern Louisiana that offers this innovative treatment. Ask your pediatrician for a referral for PCIT/ Mrs. Benoit to learn more about how this treatment could benefit your child.
Mrs. Cayer, LPC is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Therapy (EMDR) for trauma. Trauma has a tendency to get “stuck” in the brain, not only causing physiological and psychological symptoms, but also can impact an individual’s ability to have healthy relationships with others.
EMDR offers a safe space to reprocess these “stuck” trauma experiences while engaging the brain in exercises which support more healthy processing. This results in more accurate processing of trauma without the intense emotions that typically accompany trauma memories.
Ask your physician to send us a referral for Mrs. Cayer, LPC.
“Trauma creates change you don’t choose. Healing is about creating change you do choose.”

Mrs. Cangelosi-Carpenter, LPC is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy For Insomnia (CBT-I).
In addition to causing anxiety, depression, and concentration concerns, insomnia has many long term health impacts including cardiovascular health, weight management, and diabetes.
CBT-I focuses on exploring the connection between the way people think, our behaviors, and how we sleep. During counseling sessions, Mrs. Cangelosi-Carpenter would help you identify thoughts, feelings, and behaviors that are contributing to your symptoms of insomnia.
Ask your physician to send us a referral to see Mrs. Cangelosi-Carpenter so she can help you improve the quality of your sleep.
Did you know that CLMPC offers therapy and counseling for children through adults?
Over the next few days, we will be highlighting some of the therapy treatments our expertly trained counselors offer.
Mrs. Andrus, LCSW has expertise in the treatment of grief. Grief is especially challenging, as many of the features mimic symptoms of health conditions such as depression and anxiety. People with a history of depression or anxiety are at risk for a relapse in illness.
If you think grief is affecting your health, ask your physician to send us a referral to see Mrs. Andrus. You don’t have to navigate grief alone. ❤️
Attention parents and college students:
Our medical psychologists offer comprehensive evaluations to determine if academic problems are an attentional issue (ADHD), learning issue (learning disability in math, writing, or reading), or another underlying condition such as a sensory processing disorder, auditory processing disorder, and/or speech/language disorder.
We work closely with your pediatrician and make informed referrals to occupational therapists, speech/language pathologists, audiologists, or learning remediation specialists.
If you have any questions or want to inquire about our evaluation process, please don’t hesitate to email the clinic and we will get right back to you.
