FORCED TO SAY GOOD BYE, but delighted to say WELCOME... We are happy to announce the two new SFA/VCAC College Advisers JaLynn Smith and Asta Jorgensen (3rd and 4th from the left) who have joined the SFA team this 2024-2025 school year. As we welcome them in, we bid farewell to our amazing team members Deputy Director Michelle Gleeson and former SFA/VCAC College Adviser Anayxia Rodriguez. Ms. Gleeson's and Ms. Rodriguez' constant enthusiasm and unflappable attention to the diverse needs of every student walking through the door and each SFA supporter, too, made the mission possible. We send our best wishes along in your journeys.

THIS IS NOT YOUR ORDINARY BOOK CLUB. Take out the glue and scissors and reserve a large slice of your imagination for Tuesday's "book discussion" -- really the making of a Vision Board. Going to college doesn't have to be an intimidating or scary journey. Let's fire up your dreams among friends at the Charles E. Beatley, Jr. Library…8th graders to Seniors! Bring a friend, we will supply the rest.

And yes, there will be practical tips on getting into college too!

FAFSA PROGRESS was made and questions answered tonight for those determined to make some progress this fine evening. Congrats on being closer to wrapping up your finances and planning for college!

Since 2008, Alexandria Toyota has generously donated the grand prize for the annual SFA Car Raffle. We are so grateful for this tradition which was started by Jack Taylor, a relentless advocate for education in our community. For the 2023/2024 year, Alexandria Toyota also donated $10,000 worth of raffle tickets for the hardworking teachers of all four Alexandria City High School campuses.

Congratulations to staff member Vilma Zefran, the lucky winner of the annual Scholarship Fund of Alexandria Car Raffle!! Ms. Zefran is a longtime, dedicated and beloved teacher at Alexandria City High School. We appreciate her active support of the SFA and were thrilled when she was chosen as the lucky winner! This village that “it took” has a lot of inhabitants who prod, plan, push, pull and gather. See you tonight at the SFA 38th Anniversary Awards Ceremony where we are pleased oh-so-pleased to award scholarships to over 210 diligent and deserving High School seniors. They are stepping into their futures with great community support and we look forward to seeing what they will do next!

CELEBRATE THE CLASS OF 2024 SCHOLARSHIP FUND OF ALEXANDRIA AWARD RECIPIENTS! Join us at Alexandria City High School's Auditorium Wednesday, May 22, 2024. Auditorium opens to friends and family and the general public at 6pm; SFA Recipients and Award Presenters please report to the ACHS Cafeteria, through Doors 35 & 36, to meet and greet at 5:30. Reception immediately follows the program. It is a wonderful evening and the culmination of these scholars' hard work.

SPATIAL CONCEPTS…The SFA was excited to share in the energy and rather sophisticated show ‘n tell courtesy of SFA Scholarship Recipient Sehar E Saba who swung by directly after the build of her EZIE MAG sensor. Aerospace is in her far-flung future… she shared her photos with us and we snapped a few more. Thanks Sehar!

These two students are following their passion: “The mentorship will be in a hybrid mode (in-person and virtual). The project will be mostly a field work on using a magnetic field sensor to map the magnetic field strength in the city of Alexandria. I will provide the EZIE MAG senior (one each) for Sehar and Owen. The EZIE MAG sensor provides ground measurement support to the upcoming NASA EZIE satellite Mission.” Our appreciation to all that ACHS and their partnerships have to offer students!
