Three photos of the same - but so very different - space through the years. The first was taken in 1971, the second in 2007, and the third in 2021. Sometime between the first and second, someone put in the effort to strip centuries of paint from this original archway dating to 1783.
Credit the first photo, where there is so very much going on, to Ashley Callahan’s awesome new book titled “Frankie Welch’s Americana - Fashion, Scarves, and Politics”.

Given its provenance, Duvall’s Tavern is regularly featured on the “George Washington’s Alexandria” Tours guided tours through the historic village of Old Town Alexandria. We were recently treated to a visit by the General himself, as authentically interpreted by Brian Hilton.
