Mount Vernon Student Makes Team USA For Taekwondo Championship A Mount Vernon student will get to be part of Team USA in a taekwondo world championship in South Korea.

🇨🇷TAEKWONDISTA LAYLA FLORES GANÓ BRONCE EN OPEN DE SUECIA🇸🇪

📍El taekwondo de Costa Rica sigue cosechando buenos resultados internacionales, en esta oportunidad con Layla Flores en la categoría -49 juvenil quien obtuvo la medalla de bronce en el Open de Suecia.

La tica subió al podio junto a la representante de China, medalla de oro y Corea del Sur, medalla de plata.

En la disputa por la medalla, la tica derrotó a la taekwondista de Finlandia perdiendo la semifinal en un disputado combate contra la coreana.

Esta es la segunda medalla obtenida por taekwondistas costarricenses en torneos europeos cuando a finales del mes de octubre Jaycee Bassett obtuvo la medalla de oro en la categoría -44 kilos Junior en el “Open Drácula”, celebrado en Bucarest, Rumanía.

En este torneo de Rumanía, también compitió Layla Flores en -49 kilos junior, quien se quedó cerca de la seminal al perder contra la representante de Grecia en un parejo combate.

“Estos resultados son importantes porque no es sencillo llegar a competir a Europa y lograr subir al podio , se ocupan muchos fogueos internacionales para llegar al área de competencia concentrada, motivada y con mucho carácter para demostrar que estás bien preparada”, indicó Wilmar Alvarado, presidente de la Federación Costarricense de Taekwondo.
