Northeast Stars Montessori Preschool is a premier montessori preschool in Alexandria, VA.
We use Montessori, play-based, and outdoor curriculums to cultivate independence, curiosity, and creativity. Through group and individual activities, we strengthen decision-making skills, cooperative play, persistence, and problem solving abilities.
Knobbed cylinders may look simple, but they bring a lot of complex learning opportunity for our Stars. The direct aim of this lesson is to develop visual discrimination of diameter and height. The indirect aim is to develop fine motor movement of the thumb and primary fingers and introduce mathematical concepts such as diameter and height.
Cylinders will not fit into holes with a smaller diameter and cylinders are flush with the block when placed correctly. We also practice vocabulary words such as: thick, thicker, thickest, thin, thinner, thinnest, tall, taller, tallest, short, shorter and shortest. ⭐💡

Chillier weather means jackets and sweaters! 🧥 As the weather is cooling down, we will be doing a lot more self care, since our friends will have more layers to put on and take off.
✨ Our Stars practiced "the flip" method for putting their jackets on during circle time this morning. ✨ Check it out!
We love working with the abacus! 🤩 While our younger Stars practiced counting the beads and reciting numbers in sequential order, our older Stars played a "game" called Match My Move.
To play this game, all of the beads on every row line up on the same side. Then, on the top row, we moved any number of beads to the other side of the frame and asked our stars to match our "move" on the row below.
See how one of our Stars learns through everyday activities – handwashing before snack time 🧼🍽️ At Northeast Stars Montessori, we empower independence every step of the way. 🌟

Let's talk about our Montessori Material Moments. This week is about Golden Beads!
Between the ages of 3-6, children need to practice and perfect the movement of their body. We practiced this skill today by walking the line. This exercise helps children develop their balance as well! 🤸
Sharing is caring! We're learning how to take turns with all of our friends ❤️
Sometimes we all need a moment to calm down. Our Stars have been practicing calming our bodies with yoga! We practiced many different poses, then we had a meditation session. We closed our eyes and took deep breaths as we imagined ourselves floating in the air as light as a feather.
Let's talk about our Montessori Material Moments. This week is about Trinomial Cube 🟥
Wash your hands! 🧼
We're working on a very important life skill! During circle time, we learned the 7 steps you need to follow to blow your nose.
1. Get a tissue.
2. Fold the tissue in half.
3. Cover your nose with the tissue.
4. Blow air from your nose. (You can tell you’re doing it right by the sound it makes.)
5. Wipe your nose carefully to be sure your nose and face are clean.
6. Throw the tissue in the trash can.
7. Go to the bathroom to wash your hands for 20 seconds with soap and water.
Just because it's cough and cold season doesn't mean we need to suffer! We know our Stars are capable of managing themselves and protecting each other from germs. 🦠 One way that germs can spread is by coughing or sneezing. We learned that we can catch our coughs/sneezes in our inner arm to keep germs from spreading.

This week, the children learned valuable lessons on grace and courtesy. 🤝 They practiced how to offer help when someone might need it, even if they haven't asked yet.
We also explored the importance of watching a friend work respectfully. 🙌 Our guides demonstrated how to observe without interrupting, and the children agreed—taking something a friend is using isn't the right way to show respect.
These lessons are helping our Stars understand the importance of respecting each other's space and work. 💫
¡Un buen día con nosotros Estrellas! Today, we listened to Flamenco music. This is one type of popular Spanish music. We learned that people dance a special Flamenco dance to this music and they use castanets to tap to the rhythms. Castanets are percussion musical instruments! We also practiced counting to 10 in Spanish. This was super easy for most of our friends! Check out our vocabulary words for today:
