Happy First Day of School, Alexandria! We are so grateful for the partners who came out to support our Health Fair last week to ensure our students and families in our early childhood programs are ready to head back to the classroom this fall. From providing dental screenings to measuring hemoglobin levels, testing hearing and vision, and offering health care, workforce, and education resources for families, those partners include:
Anthem - Insurance company that helps our families gain access to coverage, including Medicaid
- local income-based clinic that assists families with health and dental needs (and assists with the Medicaid process)
- local children’s dental office that recently opened in Alexandria and helps families address their children’s oral health
Rochelle Tann, RD - registered dietician, who assists our children who have special dietary needs
- resource hub to help families navigate Alexandria’s early childcare and education service
- local organization that helps parents and families know their legal rights in the workplace
- providing physicals at no cost to students who need them most this week at another location.
Thank you for providing critical services to children and families in Alexandria!

Wright to Read students and volunteer tutor-mentors keep connected during the summer in various ways, including our popular group field trips. Then, we joined New Neighbors families for an exciting trip to Planet Word to explore its interactive galleries and exhibits that bring words and language to life.
Wright to Read offers volunteers a meaningful opportunity to support youth in Alexandria through 1-on-1 mentorships – many of our relationships which start in elementary school last through high school and beyond!
