This is a painting of the main character from Dōjōji, a famous Noh play, and demonstrates the complex, intricate beauty of the costumes worn by Noh actors. The main character is a female but is played by a male actor in a mask.

The era of warfare called the Sengoku period (1467-1615) ended when a united Japan entered the peaceful Edo period (1603-1868). Although samurai continued using plate and lamellar armor as symbols of their status, traditional armor was no longer necessary for battle. For this reason, armor in the style of the revival of the medieval period, incorporating gorgeous ō-yoroi and dō-maru designs, became popular.

My 2 designs for “Old Town North, Stormwater Cover Design Project“ were installed. 10 locations (my designs) of 30 are around Old Town North, Alexandria, VA. It’s so cool to see freshly cast iron covers (grayish) have started oxidizing in just a week - they are orange now and will keep aging.

Work in progress! A dragonfly is flying with cicada’s wings on my new painting🎨

I collected cicada wings and cleaned and stored them in 2021 to use with my paintings.
I painted the bee on my new work, but the wings looked flat even though I used some tricks since the background is off white. So I pasted the cicada wings on the painted wings🐝💕 I like it! A few more steps to be able to say it’s finished 🖼️

“LAST GIFT”- This painting was inspired by the picture my father took and was the last one he gave me before he gave up photography and many things due to his dementia. He was born and raised near the Japan Alps and he knew the best spot to see beautiful cherry blossoms there.

“MASKED MALE DANCER”, juried exhibition “PLAY” at the Mansion at Strathmore. 3/21-4/29. I used 24karat gold leaf to show the beautiful Noh theatre costume. You have to see it in person. Tue-Fri: 12-4pm, Sat: 10am-3pm
