Yesterday evening, SSA helped with the City of Alexandria and the Successful Aging Committee's Annual Centenarian Celebration! We were thrilled to celebrate the 13 Alexandrians who made it to 100 years of age, and were honored that 4 of them were able to attend the event in-person! It was a joy to hear welcoming remarks from Kate Garvey, the Director of Community and Human Services, a presentation from Mayor Justin Wilson, and a performance from the Alexandria's Citizens Band.

For the first week of September, Senior Services was busy setting up for the City of Alexandria's Centenarian Celebration, which will take place at 5pm on Sepetmeber 10th in the Vola Lawson Lobby of City Hall. Our Director of Development, Iris Garay, also attended a Volunteer Fair at The Church of Jesus Christ of the Latter-day Saints.
Our "Volunteers of the Week" are the representatives from Goodwin Living who came to deliver Meals on Wheels this week! We are so thankful to Goodwin Living for all the support they give SSA and Meals on Wheels!

This week, SSA's Board got out into the community by delivering Meals on Wheels. Mary Lee Anderson, SSA's Executive Director, and Iris Garay, the Director of Development, and Christine Friedberg, our Board Chair, attended a meeting of the Northern Virginia Senior Resource Network at The Landing Alexandria. Finally, SSA also Cohosted one of our exercise classes at Claridge House.
Our Volunteers of the Week are from the Alexandria Police Department. Thank you Lt. Marcus Downey for bringing new Police Department, City of Alexandria, Virginia recruits to deliver Meals on Wheels. We are proud to have the ADP's support!

This week, Mary Lee Anderson, our Executive Director, and Marshall Hespe, our Director of Nutrition Programs, attended the Meals on Wheels conference in Baltimore, where they met Ellie Hollander, CEO of Meals on Wheels America! This week, SSA's Outreach Staff also held an information session in the lobby of the Southern Towers and had its regular exercise class at Claridge House with RPCA.

Senior Services of Alexandria had another busy week of outreach! SSA attended two of Alexandria's community "Night's Out," as well as Patrick Henry Recreation Center's Senior Orientation. At these events, we were excited to see Owen Albretch with DOT Paratransit, Aida Bolivar with RPCA, and Mayra Jordan from Housing. SSA also distributed toiletry kits donated by Capital One to our Meals on Wheels Clients!

Founded in 1968, SSA strives to be the trusted, independent point of reference for Alexandria's senior citizens so they can live safe, healthy, self-sufficient lives. SSA wants seniors, their family members, and caregivers to have access to the resources needed to make informed decisions when self-sufficient living is no longer possible. To fulfill this role, the organization operates programs that provide safe and reliable low-cost transportation for seniors, as well as the mentally- and physically-impaired; nutritional meals to any homebound senior facing food insecurity; services to improve at-home quality of living; free educational events; as well as a point of contact knowledgeable of the full range of businesses, government services, independent programs for seniors in Alexandria.
