Congratulations to Chief Cobb and other members of Alliance Fire for their outstanding efforts!

This evening at the city council meeting, 4 of our members were acknowledged for accomplishments in their work. From left to right...
-FF Kevin Laux and Lt Craig Cobb were recognized for responding to an EMS call for chest pain. Upon arrival and applying the heart monitor to the pt, they recognized the pt was having a heart attack. They were able to within 5 mins of arrival, then transmit what the monitor was showing to Aultman hospital alerting the ER to assemble the cath team and be ready for the pt upon arrival and save their life by removing the 100% block they had in one of their arteries.
- Lt Steve Zahler was recognize for receiving the American Legion Firefighter of the year honors for his hard work and dedication to the citizens of Alliance. He is the leader of our EMS committee and one of the many who have fought to get our EMS program where it is today and hopefully further progress toward full transporting of the city EMS calls. He is also a leader in our department with training younger members. He is a invaluable member of our department and the city is lucky to have him as a dedicated employee.
- FF Jeremy Rhome was recognized for obtaining his Associates degree in Fire Science from Eastern Gateway Community College. He has worked hard to obtain this degree and graduated Summa Cum Laude. He is also the Union President and a staunch supporter of our hardworking members in their bid to progress the department forward.

We want to congratulate all of them for their work and thank the city administration and council for recognizing them. Good job and way to represent gentleman!!!

Public Notice:

Washington Twp. Fire has been advised that Columbia Gas has injected too high of a percentage of the odorant that gives natural gas the distinctive smell. A multi-county area has been affected. Some households are experiencing what they believe is a leak, but is only the odorant coming off the existing gas appliances. As always if you believe you have an actual leak, leave the building and call 911.

Thanks

With the exception of the very brief total phase of a total solar eclipse, when the Moon completely blocks the Sun’s bright face, it is not safe to look directly at the Sun unless you are using eye protection specifically for solar viewing.

Do not view any part of the bright Sun through a camera lens, binoculars, or a telescope without a special-purpose solar filter secured over the secured over the front of the instrument as this will instantly cause severe eye injury.

Homemade filters or ordinary sunglasses, even very dark ones, are not safe for looking at the sun. They transmit thousands of times too much sunlight and could damage the eyes.

Eye Safety for a Total Solar Eclipse
Eclipse glasses are NOT regular sunglasses; regular sunglasses, no matter how dark, are not safe for viewing the Sun. Safe solar viewers are thousands of times darker and ought to comply with the ISO 12312-2 international standard. Ohio EMA does not approve any particular brand of solar viewers.

Always inspect your solar filter before use; if scratched or damaged, discard it. Read and follow any instructions printed on or packaged with the filter.

Always supervise children using solar filters.

Stand still and cover your eyes with your eclipse glasses or solar viewer before looking up at the bright sun. After looking at the sun, turn away and remove your filter — do not remove it while looking at the sun.

Do not look at the uneclipsed or partially eclipsed sun through an unfiltered camera, telescope, binoculars, or other optical device.

Similarly, do not look at the sun through a camera, a telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device while using your eclipse glasses or hand-held solar viewer — the concentrated solar rays will damage the filter and enter your eye(s), causing serious injury.

Seek expert advice before using a solar filter with a camera, a telescope, binoculars, or any other optical device. Note that solar filters must be attached to the front of any telescope, binoculars, camera lens, or other optics.
