Happy Deepavali (also known as Diwali)
It's the darkest night (not the longest) of the year.
Deepavali is a time for reflection, gratitude, svadhyaya, and renewed hope in times of chaos and distress - and there is so much to be reflected upon these days.
How do I rise above my own pettiness, fears, inadequacies, prejudices, and shame?
How do I learn to embody contentment and inner peace? So that I can support others in that quest?
May all beings be happy, free of illness and suffering, be released from the shackles of their violent tendencies, and find peace.
May all beings happily share their resources with those in need.
May aggressions cease.
May disputes be resolved.
May hostages be released.
May genocide end and never be allowed to occur on this planet again.
May all of us realize and actualize our interwoven responsibility for each other.
May we mine our inner resources, shore up our courage, stay awake, and take necessary action to bring about positive change the world.
Om shanti, shanti, shanti.
🙏

See you on the Portico! The Buffalo History Museum
Weather allowing, LizziDee Levin of Art of Adaptive Alignment Yoga Therapy and the Carriage House Collective will be holding her 6pm Wednesday Adaptive Alignment Yoga class (normally held at the Carriage House) at the Buffalo History Museum Portico 8/2 - 9/27.
LizziDee is a certified yoga therapist with two decades of teaching experience. She teaches a style of yoga called Adaptive Alignment Yoga, that is gentle and modifiable so it's accessible for all ages/abilities. It's a mix of gentle stretching, basic alignment-based standing postures, and prop-supported restorative postures.
This class will be held on the grass so no extra padding needed, but we would recommend laying down a beach towel under your mat to keep your mat from getting damp/grass-stained. Feel free to bring your own props if you prefer to use a blanket or bolster. A range of blocks will be provided.
If we are anticipating rain, extreme heat, or poor air quality, class will be held at the Carriage House, 1134 Delaware Ave. We will be announcing by Monday (2 days prior) whether the class location will shift indoors, otherwise you can assume we will be on the grass at the Portico through the end of September.
If you would like to join us on the Portico, please pre-register. Link in bio.
Suggested Donation $10-$15 sliding scale or use your class pass.

The power of positivity embodied:

“When I started as a solo artist, I was a female Black singer in my forties with no money and few prospects for gigs. Still, I kept a ‘never give up’ spirit. Part of my spiritual practice is to change poison into medicine, to transform roadblocks through positivity. The force of my positivity pushed the discriminatory ‘ isms’ standing in my way. We all have it within our power to make decisions and take actions that elevate us. Every day, we express who we are, and who we wish to become, through our thoughts, words and deeds. Choose the positive path in everything you do. Spread positivity and kindness. That’s the way.
My legacy is that I stayed on course, from beginning to the end..because I believed in something inside of me.” - Ms. Tina Turner. 1939-2023.

The Tina Turner quote (read it) resonates with me so much from my early 20 something self when I went solo, no money or prospects-and who I grew to be in my career and life to this day, always believing, never giving up, changing poison into medicine, transforming roadblocks through positivity…. Such wise words for all of us all on this journey of life.
