SonLight Community Church

Father’s Day will be a little extra special this year. SonLight will be having Baby/Child Dedications this Sunday, June 16th. Child dedication is a time when parents can display their commitment to raising their child/children to know and love Jesus Christ. But this is not just for the parents. As a church, we also get to share our commitment to lovingly supporting the family and the child through their growth and walk in faith. Be sure to join us at 9:30am for coffee and donuts. Service begins at 10am.

If you're looking for an evening of relaxing music and worship in a historic church built in 1876 here in Steuben County, check out these dates and be sure to come out to this beautiful part of our past and present.

The Powers Church is a historic site in northeastern Indiana listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It stands as a tribute to the religious values of the pioneers who settled in communities across the nation. The small community of Powers is gone, but the church remains a reminder of the faith, determination, and vision of those early pioneers.

Visitors to the building experience the atmosphere of a church in pioneer times since no changes have been made to the interior or exterior of the church since it was built in 1876. The oak floors and wainscoting, oak and butternut pews, cast iron wood stoves, pump organs, and even the Victorian wallpaper are original. The 1876 clock still keeps time. Kerosene lamps still light the sanctuary. The church bell still rings from the bell tower.

The restoration of the church began in 1976 by a committee of interested people and continues today. The church is open to the public for three community services on the fourth Sunday evening of June, July, and August.

Parking Repairs are underway!! We are so excited!!

It's summer challenge time in Ignite and Spark! Last summer, we memorized the books of the Bible. This summer, we aim to memorize a portion of scripture together. Philippians 4:4-9 is a reminder to us all to focus on the goodness of God. Actually, we are to rejoice in Him and what he has done! The world around us seems chaotic and pulls at us from many angles. We want our children to know that God provides the peace we need when we practice Christ's example: rejoice in our Father, have a relationship with him, and love the things God loves. Handouts to practice will be given out to kids and parents this Sunday. We will partner with you to practice these verses in class on Sundays, but the imprint begins at home. Thank you for working on these verses this summer.

Also, mark your calendars for Sunday, August 11th. We will unite as a whole group to present our verses to the church body and celebrate with a special ice cream social!!

This Sunday is our Summer Celebration and picnic!! Sunday Service begins at 10 a.m., and stay for the fun!

Summer Celebration & Picnic - Sunday, June 2nd

Join us directly after service on Sunday, June 2nd, for a Summer Celebration & Picnic at the church. We will grill hamburgers and hotdogs, play fun games, and have a huge bounce house!! This event is always so much fun for everyone; you won't want to miss it. Please sign up at the big board in the Atrium if you would like to bring something to share, like chips or treats for the kids, and if you are willing to help supervise, coordinate games, or help with clean up. Day of Worship and Prayer - TOMORROW Wednesday, May 22nd

Each month, members of over ten churches gather for a day of worship and prayer called Seek, Unite, Revive. This month, it will be hosted here at SonLight. Come join us for a come-and-go service from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Each hour is led by a different community worship leader and prayer leader. The SonLight Worship Band will lead from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. to close the day, so join us for a time of worship and prayer.

We had a great opportunity to serve this week! We want to take God’s love outside of the four walls of the church and into the community.

Thank you to e2 elders and Gary and Mike for coming up north to help us plan for our next three years at SonLight. It’s exciting to see how God is moving and we look forward to the plans we will begin to implement this fall.
