Normally this time of year, I’m either bottling or harvesting honey. Sadly, all the rains we’ve been receiving this Spring have been bad for honey production. This may be our first season without a harvest. 😭 As of right now, the ladies have not produced honey for human consumption. I will check again next month.

All 3 hives are working hard building comb and bringing in pollen. They have honey for themselves but none for human consumption yet. Hoping we get something this Summer. 🐝 🍯 💕

I mowed today and, as I passed by the split yard, I noticed several stragglers! 😢 There were so many! I kept my nuc box and have 5 frames with drawn comb waiting to be used on the split hive anyway. I sprayed the comb with sugar water to entice them but they were already drawn to the smell of wax. Hopefully this works! I sprayed all the frames and the entrance of the nuc box. I’m gonna leave it out and hope for the best! 🙏🏼 Not sure how long to wait but if enough of them make it inside the nuc box, I’m gonna try reuniting them with their sisters on the bee yard.
Inspected my nuc today. Found several hive beetles which concerns me, and they’ve only started drawing comb on 1 of the plastic foundations. I added a super with 6 frames of drawn comb and 4 empty plastic foundations. Used the checkerboard method and sprayed the empty foundations with sugar water. I also removed their entrance feeder.

We transported the split hive to the bee yard last night, and the ladies did great! They were very calm & quiet. Checked on them today, and they didn’t miss a beat. They’re already hard at work at their new home site.

HIVE SARDIS INSPECTION:
Didn’t find the queen nor eggs but did find plenty of larvae and brood. So I’m comfortable making the assumption that she’s in there doing her duty.
The rest of the ladies are busy building comb on the plastic foundations, thankfully, and bringing in pollen. So I will continue to feed. They’re swallowing the sugar syrup like crazy!
