Oct 18 2021 Shawnee passed away. He was such a great horse.π Mom and I have had many talks about Shawnee. So much to say. I could write a book. He was such a challenge, when we first got him. He had never been in a building before. He did not like having his hoofs touched or trimmed. Jeff was so patient with him and Dusty on their trims. That is a long story. They came from New mexico originally. Then put into a Livery situation with baskets on their faces. AND tiedowns on their faces and heads . . Dusty was hog tired and tripped on the ground to trim him.and hit with a hammer . we found this out a few years after we had them. From someone that seen it happen and was very happy we had them. But with all that behind them.. Shawnee and Dusty became some very AWSOME horses. Mom, Jeff and I learned all we could to help them learn to trust us. Once we could build that, everything changed. Mom, did major trail riding and going to Indiana and riding in 80 miles state park. Which we learned Shawnee had a backwords Compass. We laugh about this. Many stories Mom would love to share. Riding and ground games out in pastures , round pen and indoor arena here. Retraining every time we had a encounter with him (them) . Long story .. short.. Shawnee became amazing. So did his big buddy Dusty.. They became friends on the trailer ride to our farm. They trusted us enough to get in Mom's little horse trailer to come home here. They bonded in that ride. They did not really know each other at the Livery. There was alot of horses at the Livery place. Mom and Shawnee went to dressage clinics. They did so good in their classes, In their Natural Horsemanship attire,, they got a standing ovation! These people were serious dressage folk. Then Shawnee became a great lesson horse. Wildfire and I worked with him and Dusty to be trusting of new people and students. Those that know him, will never forget him. He taught us all how to have patience, soft hands and balanced seats. And so much more. β£
