In this interview with Irene Lyon. on her YouTube page, we go deep into my heath journey and how Ireneโs courses have been a turning point for me.
We explore the connection between trauma, chronic disease and I go into detail about what itโs like to unpack a lifetime of trauma
Along with all the amazing benefits and lessons along the way.
If you or a loved one, like me, has dealt with mystery illness, chronic disease, and maybe youโve tried EVERYTHING but nothing seems to stickโฆ
This episode is for YOU
After 2 decades of looking for solutions, I can confidently say that nervous system dysregulation stemming from unprocess, stored trauma is a major root cause for many.
If you tune in, I would love your feedback and welcome any questions in the comments below

Iโve been healing yall! ๐บ
For nearly 2 decades I dealt with mystery chronic disease symptoms like fatigue, anxiety, depression, insomnia, gut issues and hormone disruption.
Over the last 2 years, I was able to identity that the root cause was a dysregulated nervous system.
Like I do, I dove in head first to learn and heal myself so that I can share that information with others.
In our interview scheduled to drop on Monday, my mentor Irene Lyon, and I go into great detail about the entire process.

If youโve experienced anxiety or panic attacks, it can really suck.
We attempt to get rid of, fix or avoid the sensations of anxiety (tight chest, churning stomach, lightheartedness etc)
AND thatโs what keeps us stuck in a seemingly never ending loop of feeling โanxiousโ
**************
In the book, Dr Weekes takes a different approachโฆ
โ
Facing
โ
Accepting
โ
Floating
โ
Letting Time Pass
1. Instead of running, hiding or avoiding the sensations, we want to FACE them.
I do this by getting curious with the sensations of anxiety and get very clear on where they are and what they feel like.
2. Next, we want to ACCEPT these sensations completely until the point that they no longer matter anymore bc the fear of the sensation of what keep us stuck.
I do this by feeling the sensation fully and allowing it to be there w/o freaking out, tensing up or trying to change it. Like being on fire and being OK with it.
3. We accept the tougher moments by FLOATING through them.
I do this by recognizing the tension in my body and intentionally relaxing as much as possible. Imagine youโre floating or sinking into surface.
4. Last, LET TIME PASS knowing that the symptoms may change and they are part of the healing process.
As time passes, we expect for things to improve and know that we are safe in the moment no matter which symptoms are present.
***********
Anxiety doesnโt have to be permanent or something to manage for life.
You may be a โnervous personโ now but you donโt have to continue to be.
It is 100% possible to HEAL COMPLETELY
We heal the nervous system by building capacity and facing the scary sensations that weโve been trying to avoid/suppress.
Until the sensations are so familiar that they donโt matter anymore.
This is what it means to LET GO.
************
When you experience anxiety, how to you respond? Letโs talk about it in the comments
If you can see it, you donโt have to be it
Learning to be the observer of our patterns is the path to healing
Itโs easy to identify with our thoughts, emotions, patterns and habits, especially if they seem never ending
When we recognize them as separate, we bring ease into the system and we have a choiceโฆ
Engage in the old pattern OR do something different
The more you do this, the more the old patterns feel less like โusโ
This means the old pathways are weakening and new pathways in the ๐ง are being formed.
Which is my way sayโฆ
Old patterns returning is a good thing bc now we can see them and we are no longer being-them
Hereโs how to RELAX like a pro ๐
One of my favorite evening routines is a hot bath after a long day to relax and wind down before bed.
Hell yeah, I said it and Iโm proud to say that I take far more bubble baths than my lovely wife.
Mostly bc she takes none while I do almost daily
Sorry not sorry lol
Hereโs why YOU should consider having yo self a relaxing tub soak too
๐ promotes relaxation and deepens sleep by raising core body temperature and circulation
๐ gentle detox
๐ improved skin health
๐ relaxed sore muscle
๐ nourish stress organs like kidneys and adrenals
๐ top off magnesium levels (most ppl are deficient)
And hereโs my โknock your ass outโ bubble bath recipeโฆ
2 cups epsom salt (detox)
2 cups Dead Sea salt (skin health)
1/2 cup baking soda (skin health and ph)
1 tsp Borax (promotes magnesium absorption)
1 CBD bath bomb from
I would say start with the epsom salt and experiment with additonal ingredients as you go.
Are you a bubble bath fan?! Lmk in the comments ๐

Iโve always been a big fan of cannabis for sleep, anxiety and over all well being.

When real life happens and you have a decision to make, who do you reach out to?
In those moments when we make a NEW decision to do something different is where the real magic happens.
Thatโs why my clients get unlimited accountability and access to me, your personal health coach.
Upgrading to a healthier lifestyle is so much doable when you have the right partner on your team.
Thatโs why I give my clients unlimited access to me for questions, concerns, accountability, support and more.
You donโt have to go it alone anymore, and if youโre local (the Raleigh, NC area), Iโll even show up in person to help you get started at the grocery store, in the kitchen, at the gym and more.
I created my 1:1 coaching business bc it was the service that I needed as someone whoโs survived and thrived despite seemingly incurable diagnosis.
Too many folks in the health space havenโt walked the walk or know firsthand what itโs like to endure huge physical and mental health challenges-but I do.
Sound like you, shoot me a DM ๐
Iโve got a post workout recovery tip that Iโve been playing with and had to share
There was a study released last December that debunked the myth that we can only absorb 30g of protein at a time.
The study showed that after exercise our collagen and muscle protein synthesis goes up significantly for several hours.
And we can absorb a lot more protein and utilize it to repair and build muscle at that time.
They studied up to 100g of protein in a single sitting and showed no upper limit to the anabolic response.
Recently starting a new workout I was getting soar AF! Maybe youโve felt the same way before?
Hereโs how I applied itโฆ
I recommend somewhere around .8-1g per pound for daily protein intake. Obviously, itโs individual and if you need help with that I got you ๐
I weigh around 180lb and get somewhere between 150-175g of protein per day. Sometime a little more, sometime a little less.
My limiting factor is digestion bc I donโt want to shovel a bunch of food down and feel uncomfortable. That sucks, trust me.
So, post workout I mix about 50g of protein powder with a glass of raw milk and have that will my meal.
Total protein intake ends up falling around 100g in a sitting and my daily intake lands around 200-225g for the day.
Let me tell you, the results have been fantastic. I have had ZERO soarness post workout since implementing this strategy and Iโm loving it.
Remember, this is my experience and health is very individualized. So, sometimes we experiment so we can figure out what works best for us at the moment.
If you need help customizing your health plan, Iโm always a DM away ๐
What do you think? Is this something that might help you?
If you give it a try, letโs talk about it in the comments ๐
Iโm passionate about working with men and menโs mental health BCโฆ
I donโt want anyone to experience losing a brother to su***de like I did
Until recently, I havenโt felt comfortable sharing or feeling the loss of my brother
And that was more than 10 years ago
My brother was sick and Iโm sure he didnโt feel like he could talk about it, most men feel the same wayโฆ
That being a man means staying hard, bottling up our feelings and holding them inside so we donโt burden someone else
Or look weak to the people around us
But, sharing our feelings is not only human, itโs how we connect with others and heal the emotional wounds that we experience
My mental health journey started when ED, Clint, and myself started Men On a Journey bc the guys in the group helped me identify that I was carrying
If I could go back in time and share what Iโve learned since, I feel like I could have helped my brother bc this group is what men need.
A safe place to share openly and receive support from growth minded men.
If youโre a man in the area we meet the 2nd Thursday of every month from 6-8p by Southpoint Mall in Durham.
Interested? Shoot me a DM for details and weโll be stoked to see you there ๐

Weโre all going through something and when youโre ready to share, youโll find that youโre not alone.
When we experience pain in our lives, itโs easy to think โNo one understands what Iโm going throughโ and โI canโt share with my friends/family bc Iโll look weak.โ
Society tells us men that weโre weak to admit that weโre suffering inside and rewards suppressing emotions and bottling up feelings.
And that bull๐ฉ is why the ladies are living longer lives and menโs su***de statistics are so much higher than women.
My brother commited su***de and I never want anyone else to have to go through that.
Thatโs why Iโm passionate about our monthly menโs group Men On a Journey and coaching men 1:1
After 2 years, Iโm amazed at the growth and connection we see in the group. We all come from different backgrounds and life situations and we accept everyone where theyโre at.
Men, looking for a safe place to open and vulnerable? Join us for Men On a Journey the 2nd Thursday of the month from 6-8 by Southpoint Mall.

Itโs full of ups, downs, bumps and bruises.
At times youโre on top of the world and at others, it feels like youโre going backwards.
Along the way there are milestones, mile markers and even some bull ๐ฉ
Loving yourself and enjoying the process while staying focused on the end goal is key.
Many times Iโve gotten stuck along the way over analyzing the why, how, and whatโs along the journey.
Yes, we want to understand (and be grateful!) where weโre at AND know weโre headed in the right direction
Sometimes that means flushing the ๐ฉinstead of over analyzing it bc there are somethingโs that can be explained
Trust me ๐
Thatโs why education around the process of healing and having a guide whoโs completed the route is so important.
If youโre anything like I was and think that you have to heal all on your own, think again.
Healing happens in community and we never heal alone.
After more than 2 decades of healing, I know that route well and Iโm passionate about guiding others
If youโre ready for the journey and need support, Iโm only a DM away ๐ฅพ๐ซถ๐

Learning to love ourselves is the most important steps in the healing process.
Bc if we canโt love ourselves, we stay stuck and itโs impossible to extend love someone else.
Unconditionally love is developed by leaning into our deepest thoughts, beliefs, emotions, fears and pain.
Accepting and integrating each part, even the ones that feel hard to love right now.
The more we can love ourselves, the more we are able to grow, change and loving someone else comes easy.

Thatโs the conclusion that my client and I came to when discussing food yesterday.
I was explaining food choices and he wanted to put a label on his current dietary approach.
โAre we doing paleo, keto, or is it carnivore-ish?โ
These are the diets he was familiar with and by identifying the diet, he could shop for those types of products at the store.
And I get it!
I work with busy professionals that are constantly on the go and short on time.
AND there are some great products that we can lean on when necessary.
BUT we donโt want to switch from unhealthy processed foods to eating โhealthyโ processed foods all the time.
We want to learn how to eat real, whole foods that our bodies have been thriving on for generations.
Need proof? Take a quick look around and tell me where convenience has gotten us as a society.
Convenience and instant gratification have made us sick, tired and overweight.
Thereโs a better way. You have to put some effort in, learn a new approach to eating healthy food, and before you know it, eat real food will be automatic.
Some of my favorite tips to eat whole foodsโฆ
๐ Shop the outside edges at the grocery store
๐ฅฉ Invest in local, grass fed meat or source from a reputable online source
๐ฅ Visit local farmers markets for seasonal fruit and veggies
๐จโ๐ณ Cook Once, Eat Twice or meal prep for a few days
๐ Learn how to order whole food items off the menu at your favorite restaurants
I know itโs different but you can do this and if you need help, shoot me a DM

Packed with protein and tailored to your nutritional macronutrient needs, overnight oats are the perfect solution.
The base is Greek yogurt (10-20g protein), add a scoop of protein powder (20-30g) and decide whether you need carbohydrates or not.
Low Carb Day? Stir in chia, flax and top with berries
Higher Carb Day? Add in oats and a banana
There are a million recipes and the one Iโm loving right now is my Sweet Potato Pie recipe
Take the formula and make it your own! Healthy lifestyle is all about personalizing for YOUR needs

-Scoop of Vanilla Protein Powder
-Pumpkin Pie Spice

Us guys get taught at an early age that showing emotions = weakness
So, itโs high time that we redefine what it means to be masculine
Including: processing and feeling emotions, following impulse to cry, scream, get angry, and ask for help
Emotions are meant to move and be expressed not suppressed.
When we hold them in, we get sick, tired and overwhelmed by life
And there are studies that show emotional tears carry stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol
Getting in touch with emotions isnโt a weakness, itโs a strength
So, go ahead and let that s**t out! Your health depends on it

Donโt get me wrong this a great plan and good advice for the masses
If you take the advice and execute correctly chances are youโll have some success
BUT
The problem with this equation is there is no prescription for mental and emotional wellness.
Thatโs like chopping w**ds and expecting them not to grow back.
If you want to remove the w**d then you have to pull out the root.
The roots lie in our mindset, our stored survival stress, and our unprocessed emotions.
To have REAL success we must work at the emotional level AND the physical level
If youโre sick of the cookie cutter protocols and want a plan thatโs customized to your needs.
Iโm your guide. Hi, itโs me! Iโm him ๐

Thatโs the toxic bull ๐ฉthat us guys are taught growing up.
Suppressing emotions wrecks our physical, mental and emotional health.
BC instead of releasing stress it gets stuck in the body
Itโs kind of like carrying a suitcase of stress around
The more ๐ฉ we stuff into the suitcase the harder it is to carry
It weighs us down. We age faster, get sick, tired and out of shape.
No matter how healthy we look on the outside, weโre likely dying on the inside.
But it doesnโt have to be that way, fellas
Emotions are meant to be released, processed and integrated, not suppressed.
We just didnโt get taught the โHOW TOโ part growing up.

We listen to our bodies by following our internal impulses
Whatโs an impulse?
An impulse is a sudden strong urge or desire to act
When listening to our bodies, this could meanโฆ.
โ
an urge to go the the bathroom
โ
an urge to rest
โ
an urge to drink water or eat food
โ
an urge to unplug or reset
These impulses seem simple yet they are an easy way to gain entry into your nervous system
So that you can respond by giving your body what it needs.
When we experience stress, itโs easy to override these impulses
And overtime, if signals from the body have been ignored long enough, the body quits communicating
This is how we get sick, injured, stressed out and overwhelmed
Because weโve pushed through, ignored, and suppressed for SO LONG.
Trust me, I used to be REALLY good at overriding my impulses
And when I learned how to reconnect with my body and listen to my impulsesโฆ
Instead of relying on external resources, I BECAME MY OWN MEDICINE
