If youโ€™ve experienced anxiety or panic attacks, it can really suck.

We attempt to get rid of, fix or avoid the sensations of anxiety (tight chest, churning stomach, lightheartedness etc)

AND thatโ€™s what keeps us stuck in a seemingly never ending loop of feeling โ€œanxiousโ€

In the book, Dr Weekes takes a different approachโ€ฆ

โœ… Facing
โœ… Accepting
โœ… Floating
โœ… Letting Time Pass

1. Instead of running, hiding or avoiding the sensations, we want to FACE them.

I do this by getting curious with the sensations of anxiety and get very clear on where they are and what they feel like.

2. Next, we want to ACCEPT these sensations completely until the point that they no longer matter anymore bc the fear of the sensation of what keep us stuck.

I do this by feeling the sensation fully and allowing it to be there w/o freaking out, tensing up or trying to change it. Like being on fire and being OK with it.

3. We accept the tougher moments by FLOATING through them.

I do this by recognizing the tension in my body and intentionally relaxing as much as possible. Imagine youโ€™re floating or sinking into surface.

4. Last, LET TIME PASS knowing that the symptoms may change and they are part of the healing process.

As time passes, we expect for things to improve and know that we are safe in the moment no matter which symptoms are present.

Anxiety doesnโ€™t have to be permanent or something to manage for life.

You may be a โ€œnervous personโ€ now but you donโ€™t have to continue to be.

It is 100% possible to HEAL COMPLETELY

We heal the nervous system by building capacity and facing the scary sensations that weโ€™ve been trying to avoid/suppress.

Until the sensations are so familiar that they donโ€™t matter anymore.

This is what it means to LET GO.

If you can see it, you donโ€™t have to be it

Learning to be the observer of our patterns is the path to healing

Itโ€™s easy to identify with our thoughts, emotions, patterns and habits, especially if they seem never ending

When we recognize them as separate, we bring ease into the system and we have a choiceโ€ฆ

Engage in the old pattern OR do something different

The more you do this, the more the old patterns feel less like โ€œusโ€

This means the old pathways are weakening and new pathways in the ๐Ÿง  are being formed.

Which is my way sayโ€ฆ

Old patterns returning is a good thing bc now we can see them and we are no longer being-them

Hereโ€™s how to RELAX like a pro ๐Ÿ˜Ž

One of my favorite evening routines is a hot bath after a long day to relax and wind down before bed.

Hell yeah, I said it and Iโ€™m proud to say that I take far more bubble baths than my lovely wife.

Mostly bc she takes none while I do almost daily

Sorry not sorry lol

Hereโ€™s why YOU should consider having yo self a relaxing tub soak too

๐Ÿ› promotes relaxation and deepens sleep by raising core body temperature and circulation
๐Ÿ› gentle detox
๐Ÿ› improved skin health
๐Ÿ› relaxed sore muscle
๐Ÿ› nourish stress organs like kidneys and adrenals
๐Ÿ› top off magnesium levels (most ppl are deficient)

And hereโ€™s my โ€œknock your ass outโ€ bubble bath recipeโ€ฆ

2 cups epsom salt (detox)
2 cups Dead Sea salt (skin health)
1/2 cup baking soda (skin health and ph)
1 tsp Borax (promotes magnesium absorption)

I would say start with the epsom salt and experiment with additonal ingredients as you go.

Iโ€™ve got a post workout recovery tip that Iโ€™ve been playing with and had to share

There was a study released last December that debunked the myth that we can only absorb 30g of protein at a time.

The study showed that after exercise our collagen and muscle protein synthesis goes up significantly for several hours.

And we can absorb a lot more protein and utilize it to repair and build muscle at that time.

They studied up to 100g of protein in a single sitting and showed no upper limit to the anabolic response.

Recently starting a new workout I was getting soar AF! Maybe youโ€™ve felt the same way before?

Hereโ€™s how I applied itโ€ฆ

I recommend somewhere around .8-1g per pound for daily protein intake. Obviously, itโ€™s individual and if you need help with that I got you ๐Ÿ˜‰

I weigh around 180lb and get somewhere between 150-175g of protein per day. Sometime a little more, sometime a little less.

My limiting factor is digestion bc I donโ€™t want to shovel a bunch of food down and feel uncomfortable. That sucks, trust me.

So, post workout I mix about 50g of protein powder with a glass of raw milk and have that will my meal.

Total protein intake ends up falling around 100g in a sitting and my daily intake lands around 200-225g for the day.

Let me tell you, the results have been fantastic. I have had ZERO soarness post workout since implementing this strategy and Iโ€™m loving it.

Remember, this is my experience and health is very individualized. So, sometimes we experiment so we can figure out what works best for us at the moment.

Iโ€™m passionate about working with men and menโ€™s mental health BCโ€ฆ

I donโ€™t want anyone to experience losing a brother to su***de like I did

Until recently, I havenโ€™t felt comfortable sharing or feeling the loss of my brother

And that was more than 10 years ago

My brother was sick and Iโ€™m sure he didnโ€™t feel like he could talk about it, most men feel the same wayโ€ฆ

That being a man means staying hard, bottling up our feelings and holding them inside so we donโ€™t burden someone else

Or look weak to the people around us

But, sharing our feelings is not only human, itโ€™s how we connect with others and heal the emotional wounds that we experience

My mental health journey started when ED, Clint, and myself started Men On a Journey bc the guys in the group helped me identify that I was carrying

If I could go back in time and share what Iโ€™ve learned since, I feel like I could have helped my brother bc this group is what men need.

A safe place to share openly and receive support from growth minded men.

Weโ€™re all going through something and when youโ€™re ready to share, youโ€™ll find that youโ€™re not alone.

Society tells us men that weโ€™re weak to admit that weโ€™re suffering inside and rewards suppressing emotions and bottling up feelings.

And that bull๐Ÿ’ฉ is why the ladies are living longer lives and menโ€™s su***de statistics are so much higher than women.

My brother commited su***de and I never want anyone else to have to go through that.

Loving yourself and enjoying the process while staying focused on the end goal is key.

Many times Iโ€™ve gotten stuck along the way over analyzing the why, how, and whatโ€™s along the journey.

Yes, we want to understand (and be grateful!) where weโ€™re at AND know weโ€™re headed in the right direction

Sometimes that means flushing the ๐Ÿ’ฉinstead of over analyzing it bc there are somethingโ€™s that can be explained

Trust me ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thatโ€™s why education around the process of healing and having a guide whoโ€™s completed the route is so important.

Learning to love ourselves is the most important steps in the healing process.

Bc if we canโ€™t love ourselves, we stay stuck and itโ€™s impossible to extend love someone else.

Unconditionally love is developed by leaning into our deepest thoughts, beliefs, emotions, fears and pain.

Accepting and integrating each part, even the ones that feel hard to love right now.

The more we can love ourselves, the more we are able to grow, change and loving someone else comes easy.

Thatโ€™s the conclusion that my client and I came to when discussing food yesterday.

I was explaining food choices and he wanted to put a label on his current dietary approach.

โ€œAre we doing paleo, keto, or is it carnivore-ish?โ€

These are the diets he was familiar with and by identifying the diet, he could shop for those types of products at the store.

And I get it!

I work with busy professionals that are constantly on the go and short on time.

AND there are some great products that we can lean on when necessary.

BUT we donโ€™t want to switch from unhealthy processed foods to eating โ€œhealthyโ€ processed foods all the time.

We want to learn how to eat real, whole foods that our bodies have been thriving on for generations.

Need proof? Take a quick look around and tell me where convenience has gotten us as a society.

Convenience and instant gratification have made us sick, tired and overweight.

Thereโ€™s a better way. You have to put some effort in, learn a new approach to eating healthy food, and before you know it, eat real food will be automatic.

Some of my favorite tips to eat whole foodsโ€ฆ

๐Ÿ›’ Shop the outside edges at the grocery store

๐Ÿฅฉ Invest in local, grass fed meat or source from a reputable online source

๐Ÿฅ— Visit local farmers markets for seasonal fruit and veggies

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿณ Cook Once, Eat Twice or meal prep for a few days

๐Ÿ“– Learn how to order whole food items off the menu at your favorite restaurants

Mix the ingredients together and toss in the fridge overnight. Too easy!

Us guys get taught at an early age that showing emotions = weakness

So, itโ€™s high time that we redefine what it means to be masculine

Including: processing and feeling emotions, following impulse to cry, scream, get angry, and ask for help

Emotions are meant to move and be expressed not suppressed.

When we hold them in, we get sick, tired and overwhelmed by life

And there are studies that show emotional tears carry stress hormones like adrenaline and cortisol

Getting in touch with emotions isnโ€™t a weakness, itโ€™s a strength

So, go ahead and let that s**t out! Your health depends on it

If you take the advice and execute correctly chances are youโ€™ll have some success

The problem with this equation is there is no prescription for mental and emotional wellness.

Thatโ€™s like chopping w**ds and expecting them not to grow back.

If you want to remove the w**d then you have to pull out the root.

The roots lie in our mindset, our stored survival stress, and our unprocessed emotions.

To have REAL success we must work at the emotional level AND the physical level

Thatโ€™s the toxic bull ๐Ÿ’ฉthat us guys are taught growing up.

Suppressing emotions wrecks our physical, mental and emotional health.

BC instead of releasing stress it gets stuck in the body

Itโ€™s kind of like carrying a suitcase of stress around

The more ๐Ÿ’ฉ we stuff into the suitcase the harder it is to carry

It weighs us down. We age faster, get sick, tired and out of shape.

No matter how healthy we look on the outside, weโ€™re likely dying on the inside.

But it doesnโ€™t have to be that way, fellas

Emotions are meant to be released, processed and integrated, not suppressed.

We just didnโ€™t get taught the โ€œHOW TOโ€ part growing up.

Thatโ€™s where I come in.

For the clients I work with, health is an inside job that transforms the way we feel and perform on the outside

We listen to our bodies by following our internal impulses

Whatโ€™s an impulse?

An impulse is a sudden strong urge or desire to act

When listening to our bodies, this could meanโ€ฆ.

โœ… an urge to go the the bathroom
โœ… an urge to rest
โœ… an urge to drink water or eat food
โœ… an urge to unplug or reset

These impulses seem simple yet they are an easy way to gain entry into your nervous system

So that you can respond by giving your body what it needs.

When we experience stress, itโ€™s easy to override these impulses

And overtime, if signals from the body have been ignored long enough, the body quits communicating

This is how we get sick, injured, stressed out and overwhelmed

Because weโ€™ve pushed through, ignored, and suppressed for SO LONG.

Trust me, I used to be REALLY good at overriding my impulses

And when I learned how to reconnect with my body and listen to my impulsesโ€ฆ

Instead of relying on external resources, I BECAME MY OWN MEDICINE
