Family Cookout and Fall Schedule Kickoff

Wednesday, August 28, 2024
Join us on the church lawn for free hamburgers, hot dogs, and all the trimmins’ as we kick off our fall Wednesday night schedule on August 28 at 6 PM. No reservations required.
Outdoor games and a 22 x 32 foot inflatable Purple Crush Bounce Slide will be available for our children and youth. Children and youth should wear swimsuits for the waterslide and bring a towel, t-shirt, and shoes.
Bring your appetite, a blanket, and an outdoor chair as we say goodbye to summer and celebrate the return of our fall schedule:
Adult Bible study, Youth Bible study, AWANA, and Handbells.

Our Wednesday Adult Bible Study resumes Aug. 7 at 6:30 PM in the Treasures for Your Heart Sunday School Class (first floor). Dr. Clipp will guide us in a study and reflection upon two Psalms each night:

Aug. 7: Psalms 22, 23

Aug. 14: Psalms 51, 32

Aug. 21: Psalms 42, 43

When Good People Do Bad Things
(2 Samuel 11:1-15)

Why do good people do bad things? Dr. Clipp will guide us in examining David's choices when he encountered Bathsheba in 2 Samuel 11. We will consider the self-deception and rationalization of the human heart and how we can best respond to temptation in our own lives.

We invite our VBS children, families, volunteers, and community to join together in the sanctuary this Sunday (July 28) for a closing time of worship as our children share music and highlights from their week of VBS at Olive Chapel. Dr. Clipp’s Message: “Jesus Is the Only Way” (John 14:1-6).

As we prepare for the official start of VBS, Dr. Clipp will guide us into a study on the memory verse for this year’s Bible School: “Not Conformed, but Transformed” (Romans 12:2).

This Sunday - July 14, 2024
Message: “Living Sacrifices” (Romans 12:1)

Apostle Paul calls us to “offer our bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God”. This Sunday Dr. Clipp will help us understand this famous Bible verse and provide four principles to guide us in healthy living.

Whip up your favorite summer dessert and join us for a Wednesday Night Dessert Potluck Social in the Fellowship Hall. Beverages will be provided.
Following the social, we will pray together for this year’s VBS, our church, and the needs of our community.

Escape to 1,100 wooded acres on the rolling hills outside of Asheboro for a time of spiritual renewal this fall. Breathe deeply and enjoy the gold, autumn leaves. God’s Spirit calls out to you: Be still and know that I am God. (Psalm 46:10)

Refresh your spirit. In our first churchwide Bible study retreat, Pastor Randy Clipp will guide us on an interactive study of Revelation 2-3 in Seven: The Churches of Revelation. Guest musician and worship leader for the weekend will be Benjamin Harlan, internationally renowned arranger and composer from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary.

Relax your body. Two-night’s lodging (double occupancy hotel rooms) and five delicious meals (3 Friday, 2 Saturday) at the Caraway Conference Center are included. Caraway is owned by the Baptist State Convention of NC and graciously serves over 21,000 guests annually.

Weekend Schedule. We will leave the church parking lot at 6 PM on Thursday (Oct. 3) and arrive at Caraway for our first Bible study and worship sessions on Thursday evening. We will continue with morning and evening sessions on Friday (Oct. 4) but will have that Friday afternoon free for your choice of activities around Asheboro or to enjoy the scenery and trails of Caraway. Following lunch and our closing Bible study and worship on Saturday (Oct. 5), we plan to leave Caraway by 3 PM to return to Apex.

Payment Information. Total cost per person is $241. Space is limited on a first come, first serve basis. Make checks payable to Olive Chapel Baptist Church by July 31 and give payment to either Dr. Randy Clipp or Rev. Clint Aclin.
Note: No refunds can be given after Aug. 4.

Have you ever prayed a prayer that went unanswered? In 2 Corinthians 12, Apostle Paul prayed a prayer 3 times for a thorn in his flesh to be removed, but God never removed it.

This Sunday (July 7) Dr. Clipp will preach a sermon entitled “When Life Is Full of Thorns”. He will preach about Paul’s frustrating experience and the lessons that each of us can learn about God’s grace and power from the thorns that we carry. We will discover how God can use the thorns in our lives to produce roses in the lives of others.
