On December 7, 1941, Pearl Harbor in O'ahu, Hawaii was bombed by the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service. During the attack, 19 US Navy ships were damaged or sunk, eight of which were battleships. Total American deaths were 2,403 with an additional 1,178 injured. Of the 2,403 killed, 2,008 were Navy, 218 were army, 109 were Marines and 68 were civilians. Around half of those who died during the Pearl Harbor Attack were aboard the sunken battleship, the USS Arizona, which remains the only battleship from the attack that has never been raised. The day following the attack, the US officially declared war on Japan and entered into WWII.
Today, we remember the thousands of lives lost in the attack and the suffering of all involved in the hope that our commemoration and recognition of this tragedy helps to prevent future attacks of this nature.
Come enjoy groovy tunes and tasty food!
