One year ago today, on July 24th, 2021, Career Firefighter Thomas E. Royds was killed in the line of duty while operating at a vehicle accident in the westbound lanes of I-76. Tommy was a Career Lieutenant with the Union Fire Association, and a proud member of IAFF Local 2844. In his honor members of the fire department and police department are taking part in the 35th annual Ben to the Shore Bike Tour this morning and we wish them all a safe ride. Thank you for all the support to the Local and his family this past year it has been truly amazing.

Lower Merion Professional Firefighters Association IAFF Local 2844 updated their information in their About section.

Around 9:40 this morning the rescue assignment was dispatched to Belmont Avenue in the Belmont Hills section of Lower Merion for an overturned cement truck with a possible diesel leak. Crews arrived and the driver self extricated however the truck was still in drive and fluids actively leaking. Crews remained on scene for some time to secure the vehicle and provide fluid control.

Crews are currently on scene of a working fire on the unit block of Bryn Mawr Avenue in the Penn Valley Section of Lower Merion Township. Please avoid the area if possible.

Radnor Fire Company and Bryn Mawr Fire Company are operating at a house fire in the 400 block of Yorkshire Road, Bryn Mawr. Yorkshire Road is CLOSED between Applegate Lane and Robinhood Road. There are no reported injuries.

Crews started the day off with this vehicle rescue with the driver heavily trapped on I476 North Bound in Lower Merion. Units from 23, 24, 39, and DELCO 15 were on scene along with Narberth Ambulance. Traffic was shut down to land Penn Star 1 on the highway to transport the patient. Great work by all on scene.

Crews are operating at the scene of a roof fire in the Wynnewood section of Lower Merion.

All units have now cleared the scene of a trench rescue today in the Villanova section of Lower Merion. Multiple agencies on scene. Great job by all!

Crews from LMFD responded to a trench rescue this morning. The Montgomery technical rescue team also responded to assist.

2 people pulled from trench in Lower Merion Twp., Montgomery County The call came in around 11:35 a.m. Wednesday for reports of two people trapped waist deep in a trench at 1221 Mt. Pleasant Rd.

L2844 would like to congratulate Matt Hand on being sworn in to the rank of Battalion Chief with the City of Chester Fire Department. Members of the Lower Merion Fire Department past and present went down for the ceremony today.

Companies were busy across the Township this morning with several vehicle accidents due to icy conditions. Please use caution.

Local 2844 would like to share some safety tips leading up to the snow storm coming to the area. Shoveling snow is great exercise, but can cause additional stress on those with heart conditions. Take breaks or let a neighbor help. A fire hydrant buried in snow can mean the difference between losing a house/possessions or persons to a fire. Never use a generator or propane-powered heater indoors! Carbon monoxide poisoning is more common in the winter months. Make sure your detector is working! Stay safe this weekend everyone!
