The Greeks had two conceptions of time: Chronos (clock time) and Kairos (the best, or the “right” time). This final salon will discuss these concepts of time and how we live in a world in which we seem to now be everywhere at once (and increasingly, nowhere at all). The forum will also discusses how we can leverage our digital lives to support a more grounded sense of community and place.
Rania Hassan combines knitting and painting to weave sculptural stories of our connections to time, place, and circumstance. Time-Line is an exploration of the threads that determine our beginnings, endings, and how they shape and define us. Come meet Rania as she works on a project in the WIP gallery knitting a site specific sculpture.

Artisphere’s final film screening will be the area premiere of Jeremy Ambers’ Impossible Light, a feature-length documentary that follows Internationally renowned Artist, Leo Villareal, as he attempts to install an iconic fine art sculpture using 25,000 LED lights on the Western Approach of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Jeremy Ambers and then by a panel discussion with local arts personalities on what insights the Bay Bridge project can offer to those in this community working to realize big initiatives in the wake of the current climate affecting the DC area arts community.
Panelists include Julian Hunt (Dupont Underground), Jayme McLellan (Civilian Art Projects, Save the Corcoran), Sheldon Scott (Animals + Fire) and Bill Warrell (District Curators, 9:30 Club, DC Space). Moderated by CityLab's Kriston Capps.
