The Rough-Faced Girl Synetic’s distinct style of telling stories through movement, fabric and mime is all over this touching and effective Native American tale of a young girl scarred by fire, who develops her own sense of self worth and beauty."Read more..."

We're getting ready for the holidays at the Family Theater... by preparing to put on a show for you! Links to buy tickets for this weekend's shows will be in the comments :)
And hey - check out this great review we got in American University's newspaper: "Although the Synetic Family Theater features plays for children and families, the play is by no means simplistic. Rather, it challenges children to understand the greater themes of the piece by relating a familiar tale in a different setting. ... “The Rough-Faced Girl” is an entertaining and impressive retelling of the traditional Cinderella story and definitely worth a trip down to Arlington."
Synetic Family Theater in Arlington offers a fresh take on the Cinderella story Arlington theater gives new life to the worn-out Cinderella story.
We had two excellent performances today for our second-grade friends at George Mason Elementary! Rough Faced Girl is a great show for that age group (since the book is taught in most schools in our area!) but is also totally appropriate for young children, while still being very touching and poignant for the adults in our audience too.
This week we have two special performances reserved just for school groups! Interested in planning a field trip? Email [email protected].
We had SUCH a big crowd today! Buy your tickets ahead of time so you don't risk walking up and finding we're sold out. :) Here's the link to buy tickets for Sunday, December 11th at 11:00am.
For an exciting hour of family-friendly fun that won't break the bank, come see the Rough-Faced Girl this weekend! It's Helen Hayes Recommended, too! :) Links to buy tickets to this weekend's shows are in the comments.
We're getting ready for another weekend of performances! Check out this wonderful review in the Washington Examiner. "Why Rough-Faced Girl? Words often limit the imagination, especially for children, because words have concrete meanings. But once you learn the Synetic language of physical storytelling, blended with music, mime, acrobatics and dance, you understand how to communicate without words."
An unconventional Cinderella story | Washington Examiner Synetic Theater's latest children's show is an adaptation of an American Indian tale called "The Rough-Faced Girl." Although the story exists in many tribes, adapter and director Elena Velasco chose the version used by the Micmaq Tribe of Canada and northern Maine.

If you haven't seen the Rough Faced Girl yet, we've got two shows coming up this weekend! Local mommy-blogger Darcy said "the play mesmerized all three of my kids. Yes, even 2 year old T sat still for a whole HOUR taking in every movement." How could you ask for a better testimonial? :) Links to buy tickets to this weekend's shows are in the comments!
