Wednesday’s the only day we’re serving this week as we work towards reopening the restaurant so we can pay our bills and push onward.

Me & Parker cooked and served 200 burgers in 2.5 hours yesterday. 🫶 Thank you to everyone who donated to help cover our costs for ingredients, paper goods, gas, propane, hours spent gathering ingredients, cooking, prepping, carefully handwashing prep dishes with a make shift clean water set up, etc.
☝️Tomorrow marks ONE MONTH since we closed due to Hurricane Helene. 🤯😱Our rent & alll our bills have not stopped but the income needed to cover all our expenses and support our family of four has. 💦 Here’s to hoping we get clean water flowing through our pipes soon!
🍔🍔🍔We will be serving 300 vegan burgers tomorrow Thursday 10/24 @ Diatribe Brewing from 2pm until Sold Out. We will also have gluten-free buns tomorrow. We recommend getting there by 3pm. Please give what you can & take only what you need so we can keep feeding our community members who need it the most right now🖤

🖤Update: We want to take a second to say thank you. Thank you from our full hearts for all of your kind words and generous donations. Every dollar we’ve received has gone to paying our restaurant and food truck bills, purveyors, & insurance. Our food truck is finally in the shop getting professionally repaired and we found out the bill will be over $5,500 so we will be applying some of the money we already received toward that major expense. The electricity is back on in the restaurant but we lost over a thousand dollars in product because we had prepped for one of our biggest weekends of the year just before Helene hit. The water just came on in the restaurant today but it is not clean (not-potable) so we are still unable to open back up just yet. Asheville will never be the same but we are committed to rebuilding the city we call home, continuing to feed our community and our commitment to the vegan cause. Hey everyone. It’s Keems, co-owner of The Smokin’ Onion. We miss y’all and hope everyone is safe and has what they need to make it through this nightmare. Message us if you are in need or if you feel alone. We will do our best to help how we can. My heart hurts too much to Instagram right now. Hurricane Helene destroyed more than eyes can see… but we won’t just sit and do nothing. We don’t have electricity or running water but we been using what little gas we have to run our generator on our food truck to feed hot food to our neighborhood and friends nearby. Everyone who was just getting by is in desperate need right now. While I just want to cry we are trying to stay focused on continuing to do what we can to help those around us. As most of y’all know we are the little guy… we don’t have wealthy backers or a bunch of savings to fall back on. We took the leap to expand and open the restaurant in January, 9 months ago, and have hit many hurdles. Just this past month we had to buy a new condenser for one of our fridges and repair our food truck due to electrical issues and mechanical issues. Everyone who knows me and Parker knows that we’re the kinda people who hate asking for help unless we absolutely have to and unfortunately we’ve reached that point. You win Helene!! You forking win! So if you or anyone you know has a dollar to spare we would love to be able to keep our little vegan business alive. We owe it to our incredible staff and supporters to ask because the situation here is dire. We will continue to help our neighbors and hope you can do the same. We will get through this together.
