It’s Sunday, and one thing is right in the world - The Irish session is playing at Jack of the Wood!
It’s been a dark time in WNC. Our hearts are still hurting for all the communities and people who’ve been heavily impacted by hurricane Helene. Over the past 3 weeks many of our staff members have been busy volunteering and helping in any way they can. The amount of love and union our community has shown towards one another is one of the most beautiful things we’ve ever witnessed. We are so grateful for all the folks who’ve come from near and far to help our little mountain towns and to the people who have donated to our go fund me to help support our staff in this time. We appreciate you all.
In all this darkness, we’ve got a little light shining in. Water returned to downtown Asheville this week and we will be reopening our doors tomorrow, Saturday October 19th. We’ve got a long way to go before things will feel normal, but we’re hopeful the community will continue coming together at Jack of the Wood for some live music, a pint, some pub food and smiling faces. I think we could all use a little of that in our lives these days.
We’ll be open Wednesday’s - Sunday’s from 3pm - 10pm with a limited food and drink menu. Check out the line up for music this weekend. Carolina Bluegrass will be playing tomorrow night for donations at the door. We can’t wait to see you all.
Love,
Our hearts are broken for our community. We LOVE you WNC.
We can’t wait to listen to some bluegrass and have a pint with you again, one day. ❤️
If you have anything to spare, and want to support the Jack of the Wood team during this time, please seed the next slide. Link is https://gofund.me/aec6d2ea and will be in our bio.
Jack of the Wood will be closed today! We’re hoping to be back open tomorrow with normal business hours! Stay safe everyone!
We’re having a short & sweet night at Jack of the Wood! Come and see us before 9pm for some comfort food and a cold drink in the coziest pub in town!

In need of something fun (and free) to get you through to the weekend? 👀 Me too!
I'll be playing some tunes at Jack of the Wood with the incredible Shawn Lane this Thursday, and we'd love to see ya'll there! 🪕 🎶 🎻
Y’all! We’re thrilled to welcome MESCHIYA LAKE & THE MOOD SWINGERS for their debut this SATURDAY, AUG 24th at 9pm!
Newly based in Asheville (by way of New Orleans), Lake has quickly made a name for herself in the local music scene — delivering powerful, vibrant vocals against lush Americana-jazz-styled backings.
If she’s a little hard to peg down genre-wise — as the best singers often are — we’ll let her reviews do the talking:
THE NEW YORKER: “Lake rocks back on her heels, lifts her chest, and opens her throat like an air raid siren to croon in a thrilling pre-microphone style that . . . can make you feel by turns as though you were shivering around a campfire in a railroad yard or drinking in a Budapest nightclub in 1938.”
THE NEW ORLEANS TIMES-PICAYUNE: “Close to the end of the set, she sang a Bessie Smith blues with the line, ‘I’m as good as any woman in your town.’ In New Orleans music, that’s a bold statement – but she is, and better, too.”
Beginning her musical career at age nine at the South Dakota Opry, Lake’s journey has taken her from itinerant circuses to busking in the French Quarter, from the Lincoln Center stage, to those in Brazil, Canada, Denmark, The Netherlands, Italy, Russia, the U.K., and Ireland. And at every stop along the way, she’s shown people the magic of expressing love of life through music and dance.
This is definitely a performer you don’t want to miss, so come join in the musical magic! $10 at the door.

We’ve got a spicy Friday night in store for you TONIGHT when MUCHO GUMBO returns to the stage with their musical gumbo of Tex-Mex, swamp pop & Cajun tunes guar-an-teed to get your toes tappin’!
Hailing from Charlotte NC, MUCHO GUMBO got together in 2020 when this close group of musical compadres gathered fireside to swap favorite tunes!
Jean Prewitt & Don Cowan bring their experience with Cajun & zydeco with bits of country, blues, swamp pop & swing stemming from several decades with Carolina Gator Gumbo and Zydeco Ya Ya. Bill Noonan has been exploring the border of country & western and rock & roll since the early ‘80s as a solo artist & bandleader, perhaps best known as leader of Rank Outsiders in the 90s and ‘00s. Ken Cotner is one of the most in-demand and in-the-pocket bass players in the area. Peter Chakales has been contributing awesome rhythm & excitement to an array of best bands (including Bill Sheffield & the XL’s) all over the southeast for years!
A mutual spark was ignited by adding Tex-Mex to their gumbo of shared styles, and the resulting fire is burning hot, exciting and inviting!
Show starts at 9pm, but y’all stop in early for our shrimp & grits and a cold pour from the bar! $10 cover at the door. 🦐🪗🪕

UPDATE: Unfortunately, Cole Ritter has had to cancel tonight’s scheduled show due to illness. We hope everyone is feeling better soon & look forward to getting a show back on the books!
************************************************
Nashville’s COLE RITTER returns to the stage this FRIDAY 7/19 at 9pm!
The Tennessee native is known for a diverse yet cohesive sound that combines elements of gritty country and rock with the dreamy reverb-drenched sounds of surf and western music.
Ritter first picked up a violin at the age of 3, emulating the country, bluegrass, and early rock & roll music that captivated his young ear. Within five years, he was touring the Southeast with a group of skilled violinists. At 13, he inherited his great-grandfather’s cherished guitar and quickly discovered a power previously untapped as he found his voice intertwining effortlessly with the melodies that flowed from his fingertips.
Ritter has been honing his craft ever since, appearing on Season 20 of “American Idol” and sharing the stage with many rising stars, including Sierra Ferrell at the Ryman Auditorium.
It’s gonna be a great show! Get here early to grab the perfect spot, a festive pour or two & some excellent pub grub, y’all!
