Here's an early glimpse of one of the works featured in our upcoming group exhibition, Common Thread, opening on September 6th!
Common Thread celebrates a selection of twenty artists whose practices are united by a singular material: fiber. While many of the artists employ traditional textile techniques such as weaving, quilting, and embroidery, others explore the potential of fiber through basketry and sculpture. The show aims to highlight how textiles can be reimagined to address both personal and cultural narrative; underscoring the material's role as a common thread that links craft and fine art.

The focus of Olson’s career in photography has long been commercial, but throughout he has pursued a more idiosyncratic street photography that sharply captures the chance encounters of everyday life.
His work is anchored by subtle street photos burned into all the surfaces of the bisque, including the interiors. As Olson notes, “There’s nothing on them that hasn’t gone through my camera and hands.”
See more of these works during our current Clay 24 exhibition until June 26.

Christina Brinkman explains to us, "Nature and organic form help bring direction and orientation to my work. It is usually white, the absence of color or the sum of all colors. Without the distraction of color, one considers the outline, the interior and exterior space, the proportions and the relationships of the form."
This porcelain grouping by Brinkman is part of our Clay 24 exhibition.

Our Story
Founded in 1990, Blue Spiral 1 exhibits work by exceptional artists and object makers in a light-filled, 15,000 square-foot gallery spanning three floors. This spacious setting allows the gallery to offer considerable diversity, affording accessibility to various tastes and aesthetics. Blue Spiral 1 maintains an extensive exhibition schedule, presenting over 25 shows annually. Thematic group exhibitions and individual artist showcases rotate in the Main and Lower Level galleries every other month, while the gallery's Upper Level features a wide array of works by over 100 represented artists.
The gallery also has had the privilege of representing the estate of Will Henry Stevens (1881-1949) for over thirty years. A pioneer in modernism in the American South, Stevens "should be on everyone's list of the top 10-15 underrated artists in America in the first part of the 20th Century." -David Houston, Director of Curatorial, Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art (previous)
