Hey Athens!! Have you ever had a Whole Body Composition test or a DEXA scan? This test provides accurate in-depth body composition analysis of your fat, muscle, bone and water mass. This can be used to identify health risks and problems in the body before they occur. This can also be used to check where you are now and set goals for where you want to be.

We are offering whole body composition scans at Summit Clinical Research, LLC. for $75.00. (These are normally $150 to $300.00)

A DEXA whole body scan is the gold standard in providing whole body composition information.

Things to know:
- The scan can take 10 to 20 minutes to perform.

- The best time this is most accurate is before 2pm. Arrive properly hydrated (fasted but small amount of water is allowed), and don't exercise or have eaten a meal prior to your scan. The entire appointment is blocked for 30 min but the scan will take 8-10 minutes at most.

- No vitamins before the bone density test.

- You should remove all jewelry and other accessories in the area to be scanned and wear loose comfortable clothing. Wear clothes with no metal, buttons or zippers.

** You should not consider having a whole body composition DEXA scan done if you have any of the following:
- Pregnancy
- Recently had gastrointestinal contrast or radionuclides
- Severe degenerative changes or fracture deformity in the measurement area
- Inability to attain the correct position and/or remain motionless for the measurement
- Extreme obesity or extremely low body mass index that may inversely affect the technique and the ability to obtain accurate and precise measurements.

We are currently seeking patients for clinical trials for the following problems:

- Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE)

- Diabetic Gastroparesis

- Fatty Liver and Fatty liver with fibrosis/cirrhosis

A bone density test measures how strong your bones are. The test will tell you if you have osteoporosis (or weak bones), and it can help you understand your risk of breaking a bone in the future. Women are at a higher risk for osteoporosis then men, and the risk increases with age.

Who should get a bone density test:
Women 65 and older
Men 70 and older
Anyone who has broken a bone over the age of 50
Anyone with a Vitamin D deficiency
Anyone who smokes
Anyone who has excessive alcohol intake
Anyone with malabsorption issues

Some medications can also affect bone metabolism:
heparin, warfarin, cyclosporine, glucocorticoids, medroxyprogesterone acetate, cancer drugs, thyroid hormones, some acid reducers are some medicines that can cause bone loss.

Our bone density tests are $75.00 we do not file with insurance but give you the information to file your own claim.

Fun fact- we also have whole body composition scanning that allows you to see the bone density, lean mass, and fatty content in your whole body. This is extremely helpful when starting a weight loss program. If you pay $100.00 up front you can have this done twice. Once before you begin your program and once when you finish it so you can really see all your hard work! Otherwise these are also $75.00 per scan.
