Real World Organizing

I'm listening to Jennifer Watts' Losing Weight with ADHD podcast and she presented the idea of 'laying your weapons down' with self-talk. I love this concept - why do we go to war every single day with the most important person to us?

Whenever I am struggling with motivation, I try to play some games with myself. Right now, it's 96 freaking degrees out but I have to set things in the middle of my garage so the auctioneer can come and get them tomorrow. This is a hot and dirty task. I also have to unload my stupid car - just because that's what grownups do. My plan is to keep the AC blasting in my car and alternate loads for as long as I can stick with it. The movement and progress keep my brain engaged and I get lots of little dopamine hits along the way.

Update: I ran out of things to unload in my car so I switched to laundry until the garage was done. Bonus: I had no plans of touching the laundry today!

You'd be surprised...

Ok, so I admit that even I was feeling a bit dorky for labeling the hangers in my own closet but I cannot tell you how much easier it makes getting ready in the morning! This organizing stuff actually works - who knew?

PSA for any Athens peeps who use the Athens Hocking Recycling Center dumpsters.

Did you know that when you put things in the recycling dumpsters that the recycling center cannot process (think plastic bags and Styrofoam usually), it actually COSTS them money?! Yep, they have to throw it in their dumpsters which go to the landfill - and is an extra expense for them. At a time when they're fundraising just to stay alive, 'wishcycling' - that's what it's called - is costing them unnecessarily.

If anyone has something they want to recycle but AHRC cannot take it, please feel free to message me. I'm a great resource for avoiding landfill.

Satisficing - This is a concept that I encounter a lot and try to impart to my clients. It means to accept an option as satisfactory. Lots of other ways to say this - perfect is the enemy of good, a job done well enough is better than a job done not at all, look at the end game, etc. What other words or phrases do you use to convey the same meaning? Let's come up with lots to see what sticks!

Super pleased with how this toys area turned out!

I'm always so proud of my clients when they allow themselves to live outside of the box - this client decided that she wanted a coffee station in her bedroom! What a wonderful bit of luxury!

Pitched the old chair, moved a chair from across the room and tidied up this client's spot in her living room. Still lots to do, but this should make the 'doing' a lot more peaceful.
