The design intent for the Façade of the Louis Vuitton Aventura store was to emulate the iconic Louis Vuitton pattern. Since the façade had to be made in panels, we needed a solution to allow for a continuous pattern repeat.
To achieve this and keep mold and logistic costs in check while reducing risk of breakage, DEX produced several hundred patterned stars separately to be installed over the panel seams.
The stars were installed with hidden fasteners and exterior adhesive as the final step in the process and both hid the seams and allowed for a stunning visual representation of the Louis Vuitton trademark pattern.

Designing with site constraints creates a need for DEX by GATE problem solving.
The NIKE House of Innovation, NYC facade panels had to be thinner so they would not extend too far onto the sidewalk and encroach on set back.
To achieve the aesthetic, DEX formed the 5’ tall x 10’ wide plus a 1 7/8” thick 16” corner return panels to be cast vertical to produce the authentic look of a cast in place vertical wall.
DEX by GATE’s expertise allowed for an oversize high-performance concrete panel to be created and installed.

Louis Vuitton at the Aventura Mall in Miami was DEX by GATE’s first facade project.
DEX by GATE was asked to produce a mock-up of a 90 degree shaped corner out of Ductal and ultimately won the project based on the superior quality of the mock-up.
The L-shape unit plays a crucial role in maintaining perfectly straight lines on each exterior corner of the building. By using this design element, the corners can be kept sharp and precise, enhancing the overall aesthetic and structural integrity of the building.
This approach ensures that the edges remain aligned, creating a visually appealing and structurally sound design.

This unique acoustic high-performance concrete sculpture named Murmur was fabricated at both the DEX by GATE plant in Atlanta, GA and the Digital Fabrication Lab at Georgia Tech led by Professor Tristan Al-Haddad.
This project was designed and manufactured as a single 7,900-pound unit. The intricate forms of the sculpture were generated using parametric modeling in Rhino/Grasshopper, a software suite that enables sophisticated 3D modeling and computational design.
The sculpture not only serves as an artistic landmark in Piedmont Park but also explores the intersection of technology, architecture, and acoustics. It exemplifies how digital tools and traditional techniques can come together to create functional and aesthetically pleasing public art.
