When you buy a cool car at the auction and you take it in for service for the 1st time. 2010 BMW X-5 with 63k miles. It had the Original Air and Cabin, 4 quarts low on oil and no coolant showing in tank. This one has been reprogrammed to show no check engine light and had a dead tweety bird in the air filter housing. Always have your car checked properly before buying it.

Getting Your Vehicle Ready For Winter - ASE It’s foolhardy to head out in a poorly maintained vehicle in the dead of winter, of course, but even vehicle owners in temperate zones need a car care check as the days grow shorter, note the pros with the nonprofit National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE), an independent group tha...

Transmission Fluid
Changing automatic transmission fluid is best left to a mechanic equipped with a transmission flusher. Transmission fluid is a slippery liquid that acts as a lubricant for all of the moving parts inside your transmission. In an automatic transmission, this fluid also serves as a coolant and a viscous fluid that transmits power from the engine to the transmission.
Should I do this service when it's recommended?
Yes, definitely, regardless of whether you have a manual or an automatic transmission.
Why do I have to do this?
Manual: In a manual transmission, the problem is not so much the fluid degradation, but rather fluid contamination.
Automatic: Because more heat is generated in an automatic transmission, automatic transmission fluid actually degrades and breaks down with use.
What happens if I don't do this?
If you don't change the transmission fluid on schedule, you'll be lubricating your transmission with metal shavings and other contaminants. This will shorten the transmission's life. The result could be a hefty boat payment to your mechanic. In other words, changing your transmission fluid at the correct interval is a good investment.
Car Talk Tip: Unlike engine oil, transmission oil doesn't burn up. So if you're low on transmission fluid, you almost certainly have a leak.

The following tips ASE will give you a road map to fall car care.

Read your owner’s manual and follow the manufacturer’s recommended service schedules.

Engine Performance—Get engine drive ability problems (hard starts, rough idling, stalling, diminished power, etc.) corrected at a good repair shop. Cold weather makes existing problems worse. Replace dirty filters—air, fuel, PCV, etc.
Fuel—Put a bottle of fuel de-icer in your tank once a month to help keep moisture from freezing in the fuel line.
Oil—Change your oil and oil filter as specified in your manual—more often if your driving is mostly stop-and-go or consists of frequent short trips. \
Cooling System—The cooling system should be flushed and refilled as recommended.
Heater/Defroster—The heater and defroster must be in good working condition for passenger comfort and driver visibility. Windshield Wipers—Replace old blades.
Battery—The only accurate way to detect a weak battery is with professional equipment.
Lights—Inspect all lights and bulbs; replace burned out bulbs; periodically clean road grime from all lenses.
Exhaust System—Your vehicle should be placed on a lift and the exhaust system examined for leaks.
Tires—Worn tires will be of little use in winter weather.
Transmission—Often neglected until a major failure, routine checks and fluid changes at prescribed intervals can prevent very costly repairs down the line.
Emergencies—Carry gloves, boots, blankets, flares, a small shovel, sand or kitty litter, tire chains, a flashlight, and a cell phone. Put a few “high-energy” snacks in your glove box.

Drivers of BMWs frequently come in for anecdotal criticism for habits on the road that are perceived as aggressive.

Now, a couple of studies, one in the U.S. and another from the U.K., appear to provide statistical evidence that BMW drivers are, to be polite about it, complete jerks.

The study of 2,837 motorists found men between the ages of 35 and 50 driving blue BMWs were most likely to be reported as having engaged in road-rage behaviors such as aggressive driving and swearing.

Who knew there was a Brake Awareness Month? So come by Wrights Car Care and let us check your stopping power! Brake Safety Awareness Month is the Perfect Time to Check your Brake System

When it comes to the safety of your vehicle, the brake system is at the top of the vehicle safety checklist. Brake Safety Awareness Month in August, sponsored by the Motorist Assurance Program (MAP), is a great time to have your brakes inspected to make sure they are in safe working condition. The Car Care Council recommends checking the brakes routinely and repairing or replacing when necessary.

A 1954 Mercedes-Benz race car sold for a record $30 million at an auction in England Friday.

While collectible cars have been sold privately for more, this is the highest price ever paid for a car at a public auction. Until today, the record had been held by a 1957 Ferrari Testa Rossa Prototype which sold at an auction in California in 2011 for $16.4 million.

The Mercedes W196R Formula 1 race car, powered by a 2.5-liter 8-cylinder engine, was one of a group of race cars that won 9 World Championship-qualifying Grand Prix races in 1954 and '55.
