Posted • What an awesome Ladies Day Outdoors training event last Sunday!
It was 90 degrees with a breeze, so we chambered cartridges and squeezed!
The Ladies came to work!
This is a community service that Bass Reeves Gun Club offers where Women of all skill levels focus on applying the basics of safety and marksmanship!
In this session, Chapter President Larry Brown Jr provided a mini-lesson on the immobilization zones and scenarios where application of direct hits to the pelvic girdle are advantageous.
For the drill, 3" x 3" index cards were used for pelvic girdle and cranial target areas, and an 8" diameter paper plate for the upper thoracic area target at 5 yds. Challenging for mostly new shooters, however, it informs of the training and practice necessary to make shots that count towards personal defense.
The Ladies got some great giveaways too! A personal siren alarm, we gave away (2) $50 Gift cards and in support of national Safe Storage week...(3) Snap Safe Pistol Safes!!
Had a good time at 5.11 Tactical in Alpharetta today. Good connections were made with some good people.
Posted • On April 9, 1963, Mississippi farmer and civil right activist, Hartman Turnbow and thirteen other African Americans tried to register to vote in Lexington, Mississippi. They were approached by a gang of white men who attempted to intimidate and prevent the group from registering to vote. Within the angry mob was a deputy sheriff, Andrew Smith, with his hand on his gun holster, called out, "All right now, who will be the first?" At that point, Hartman Turnbow stepped forward and told the deputy sheriff "Me, Hartman Turnbow. I came here to die to vote. I'm the first."
The "First Fourteen", as they were later called, took a literacy test and the circuit clerk failed them. Later that night members of the angry white mob attempted to burn down the Turnbow residence in response to him leading voting rights earlier that day.
Hartman Turnbow fought off the terrorist attack on his home with his sixteen-shot semiautomatic rifle, defending his home and saving his family.
Later, Turnbow explained that his gunfire was perfectly consistent with the nonviolent philosophy of the freedom movement, declaring, “I wasn’t being non-nonviolent, I was protecting my family.” Turnbow embraced armed self-defense and political nonviolence without any sense of contradiction. In this, he channeled a generations-old practice and philosophy of arms that was an integral part of Black response to racist terrorism, mobbing, state failure, and majoritarian tyranny.
Turnbow was a member of the Mississippi Freedom Democratic Party and a delegate at the 1964 Democratic National Convention.

BRGC Brothers got together and built skills through structured drills applying concepts learned in mini lessons!
The Bass Reeves Gun Club (BRGC) and the Youth Fi****ms Education Committee (YFEC) developed the Youth Fi****ms Education Program on Feb 3, 2021, recognizing that gun safety involves instructing our children in the proper use of fi****ms.
We educate youth ages eight to 20 years old and require a parent or legal guardian to accompany them as a shared learning experience. Our BRGC facilitators are also certified fi****ms instructors who teach youth the proper perspective and practical uses of fi****ms, gun safety, function, firing cycle, and marksmanship basics. Our goals for students include gaining respect for fi****ms, reciting and demonstrating safety procedures, separating reality from video games, learning how fi****ms work, receiving coaching, and displaying marksmanship skills in a live-range environment.
We strongly believe that state and federal gun legislation should always be supportive of programs such as ours and we look to working with legislators to ensure that happens.
Posted • Happy 2nd Amendment Day!
As citizens we believe in taking full advantage of all of our Constitutional rights and Amendments to those initially crafted rights! Just as we believe the 1st Amendment and the 14th Amendments to be valuable components of our American freedoms...in the same way, we believe that the 2nd is just as valuable!
To quote one of our great American leaders...
"...the right to defend one's home and one's person when attacked has been guaranteed through the ages by common law." ~Martin Luther King, Jr.
The weather finally allowed us to be great for Ladies Day out!! Worked on the Marksmanship Fundamentals, multi target engagement and how to engage from cover/concealment.

State Rep. Doreen Carter of DeKalb County District 93 brought together a great partnership between DeKalb County Legislators, the City of Lithonia, Lithonia Community Police, Mental health & Su***de prevention orgs and Bass Reeves Gun Club, Inc.
We discussed:
* Recent negligent incidents where children were, unfortunately, killed with unsecured/unholstered handguns.
* Georgia & Federal laws related to when and how youth may safely interact with guns.
* The importance of learning and adhering to the 5 Fundamentals of Fi****ms Safety
* Safe storage options and had giveaways of gun locks and gun safes.
* Occupations that require the use of fi****ms. Thanks to Ofc King, Community Police Ofc!
* Su***de rates amongst middle & high school students, suicides by fi****ms, prevention and available mental health resources.
* Bass Reeves Gun Club's Youth Fi****ms Education Committee training program and our next training event coming up on April 20th
* Preservation of our rights to lawfully own and operate fi****ms for hunting, shooting sports, instructing recreational use and self/community defense.
We had positive, spirited discussion & great questions from those who attended. The community appreciated the information and wanted to continue the education and support for our program!
Many registered on the spot for one of our upcoming fi****ms training opportunities!
Next Saturday we are partnering to help educate on fi****ms safety. If you are on the area come out for this collaborative event.
Today we completed our ruck event. Members walked two miles in full gear they had available if they had to bug out. Right after completing 2 miles they had to go right into a course of fire. As we move through these three distance will increase.
BRGC Historical Perspective Committee Presents:
Gloria Richardson
Born in 1922, Gloria became involved in the Civil Rights Movement to support her teenage daughter and other youth demonstrators.
Richardson was openly militant, leading street protests and questioning nonviolence as a tactic. Her stance inspired later efforts of the Black Panthers and others who adopted more militant responses to social injustices.
She led successful civil rights protest as head of the Cambridge (Maryland) Nonviolent Action Committee, Ebony magazine named her “the Lady General of Civil Rights.” Well into her nineties, she still advocated for civil rights with a passion for justice. Gloria Richardson passed away in July 2021. We salute you!!
Our Foundations Class will be taught by KG and KB this month. Come learn from two of our great instructors.
