Georgia Peach Pug Rescue

We are a Georgia-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit pug rescue organization.

Our purpose is to rescue pugs from a variety of situations and place them in volunteer foster homes where they will live while they receive the emotional, behavioral, medical, and nutritional care necessary to enhance their quality-of-life and prepare them for transition to their permanent home.

09/05/2024

Today is the International Day of Charity, a day intended to increase worldwide visibility and public support for charities. We would like to take a moment to appreciate our board of directors, coordinators, veterinarians, volunteers, fosters, adopters, sponsors, donors, social media supporters, and others supporting in various capacities, for your individual roles in increasing the visibility and public support of our organization during our first nine months of intake. We recognize the pivotal role that each person plays in the rescue process, and are grateful for your support. As always, if you have the bandwidth, we welcome additional support and would love to connect. ❤️

Clara is now 5 months old!! She hit some new milestones, so here is her updated bio and pics. Most notably, she now helps make the bed, fold laundry, and cook dinner! 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Such a good girl! 😍 Clara has been harder to find a forever home for because she doesn’t have the physical pug characteristics, but we assure you she is 49% pug and certainly acts like one. Can you help us spread the word about this little sweetheart?

🍑Name: Clara
🍑Age: 5 months on September 1st

🍑Likes: Belly rubs, playing with dogs and humans, toys, chewing, playing fetch and snuggling with her human and dog friend.
🍑Dislikes: Being away from the action

🍑Temperament: Sweet, smart, curious, fun loving and will startle with new things but adjust quickly. Very loving and snuggly. She has the clown clumsy sweet pug personality but not stubborn. She is growing up to be like her mother who is an amazing dog.
🍑Personality: Very sweet, loving and smart. She loves to be in on everything going on and can be fearless but clumsy. She has not met anyone or anything that she does not like. She does not look like a pug but she acts like one.
🍑Behavior: She is a very sweet loving girl that just wants to please and have fun. She has a variety of cute vocalizations just like a full pug. She responds to you saying "no" or clapping your hands. She is very trainable and already knows come, sit and down. She is also a heavy chewer, but only chews on her toys. She will need toys made for heavy chewers.

Happy Labor Day!!

We are thrilled to welcome the beautiful Miss Scarlett to the GPPR family. 😍 Her family felt that they were unable to provide the level of care that she needed, so they reached out to us. Amy, our amazing Intake Coordinator, chauffeured Scarlett to her foster home today, where she will be spoiled rotten. In anticipation of Scarlett’s arrival, the foster home went on a shopping spree and bought her one of everything in every aisle. 🎉👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 Needless to say, she is in great hands. Thanks to Amy and Scarlett’s foster family, we are able to say, WELCOME, Scarlett!!! ❤️

That song will be in your head all day. 😬 Happy $5 Friday, folks. We’d love your support for the ongoing care of the pugs we have in foster. You can check them out at georgiapeachpugrescue.com/in-foster ❤️Brace yourself for the CUTENESS 😍

Adopt me🐾
georgiapeachpugrescue.com/adopt
🍑Name: Ollie
🍑Age: 4
🍑S*x: male
🍑Weight: 18 lbs
🍑Neutered/Spayed: neutered
🍑Housebroken: yes, hasn’t marked or had an accident inside the house
🍑Crate trained: yes (nighttime; also when you leave home but helps to provide food toys (kongs) as he will miss you)
🍑Barks frequently: likes to alert us when folks pass our yard but he is easily redirected when called into the house; reduced barking now at landscapers, garbage trucks, etc. White noise or music helps.
🍑Digs in the yard: No
🍑Good with dogs: friendly or indifferent to dogs in neighborhood. Likes being only dog in house but may connect with similar breed/size in household.
🍑Good with cats: Unsure
🍑Good with kids: Yes
🍑Food/treat aggression: we have not seen any food, treat or toy aggression with us (but unsure if other dogs in household)
🍑Likes: walks, treats, playing fetch, car rides, snuggling with you on couch; basically, likes to be your companion in everything you do. He really likes having a schedule/routine too.
🍑Dislikes: unexpected noises but getting better. White and music helps. Is a Velcro-pug so misses you when you leave the room/house. (He is the perfect work-from-home companion!)
🍑Special considerations: we think he’d thrive in a single dog environment (or possibly with an older similar breed dog) and a household that is work from home as he will truly bond with his owners.
🍑General health: Very healthy 4 year old that shows no apparent health issues. He is an early riser and loves his morning meal, a short walk, and a quick game of fetch before you start work.
🍑Temperament: Very friendly, loving, will bond quickly to owner(s).
🍑Personality: Ollie is a sweet and loving pug that wants to connect with you and be your buddy throughout the day.
🍑Behavior: Ollie likes a morning routine and will settle/relax by a bed near you when you are working. He also enjoys a quick evening walk after dinner (as he prefers to do his “ #2 business” on am/pm walks). He will get sleepy by 8pm but will snuggle on couch until bedtime. He will sleep in a crate near your bed and enjoy his favorite chewy and blanket with him.

How stinkin’ cute is Greta in her donut🍩 that her foster momma got her?! She is recovering nicely from her spay procedure last week. She has a couple more weeks of her doxycycline, then a 30-day wait until her first heartworm injection. Thank you all for your generous donations toward her heartworm treatment ❤️

Adopt me🐾
🍑Name: Bug
🍑Age: 7
🍑S*x: male
🍑Weight: 25 lbs
🍑Neutered/Spayed: neutered
🍑Housebroken: yes, hasn’t marked or had an accident inside the house
🍑Crate trained: No
🍑Barks frequently: Sometimes at passing cars but he is easily redirected
🍑Digs in the yard: No
🍑Good with dogs: Yes but we think he would thrive more in a single dog household where he can be the star of attention. He gets overstimulated and will relentlessly try to hump our pug.
🍑Good with cats: Unsure
🍑Good with kids: Yes
🍑Food/treat aggression: Yes but only towards other dogs, not people. Managed by separating dogs during meal times.
🍑Likes: walks and treats, loves to be pet and get attention.
🍑Dislikes: nail trims 😖
🍑Special considerations: we think he’d thrive in a single dog environment. Has some rear-end instability; would benefit from a single story home or with someone would can carry him up and down stairs, have ramp for the couch, etc.
🍑General health: He’s pretty energetic for his age. He’s lost some weight already now that he’s eating the proper amount of food. He could still lose a few more pounds but he does get around well for the most part. His coat is in great condition and does well with baths.
🍑Temperament: Very friendly. Some toy aggression towards another dog. He has a low growl when walking past other people outside but is not aggressive. He loves to follow you around and snuggle with you on the couch or on the bed.
🍑Personality: Bug is a lover and just wants to be the center of attention. He can get a little jealous when we are playing with our other pug and will try to hump him to show dominance. He comes when he’s called and is easily redirected. He loves to play with our other pug and doesn’t show aggression but can get overstimulated by hu***ng too much.
🍑Behavior: Bug is very calm and easy going. He doesn’t show any fear towards people or other dogs other than an occasional low growl. He gets easily excited to go on walks and when getting a treat. He likes to play with our pug for about 15 minutes and then will sleep for awhile. He’s laid back and doesn’t have any separation anxiety when we have to leave the house.

Age: 6 (5/20/18)
S*x: Male
Weight: 27lbs
Neutered/Spayed: Neutered
Housebroken: Yes
Crate trained: Yes
Barks frequently: No
Digs in the yard: No
Good with dogs: Mostly (we have 2 additional dogs and he gets along with them both 95% of the time but the other 5% he doesn’t get along with the dominant dog which ends in fights)
Good with cats: unsure
Good with kids: yes
Food/treat aggression: no
Likes: snuggling, walks, fetch, swimming, sunbathing, stuffed animals
Dislikes: getting his nails trimmed
Special considerations: would do great in a home with no dominant/alpha personality dogs/cats, or as an only pet
General health: excellent health, very relaxed dog, a game of fetch or a walk a day and he relaxes for the rest of the day if needed to
Temperament: very patient and great temperament, just very alpha forward
Personality: social, loving, patient, dominant personality
Behavior: dog rivalry with our bigger, dominant dog. Competing for alpha of the pack. Food driven for training, very excited when people come over, doorbell rings, time for meals, food around.

Oliver, or Ollie for short, wasn’t too sure about me when I first arrived to pick him up. However, after lots of time bonding in Atlanta rush hour traffic 😝, we became besties. He comes from a loving home that spoiled him rotten, as he deserves, and the decision to place him into rescue was not taken lightly. Ultimately, it was for his own safety and well-being and we appreciate his family trusting us with his future. ❤️ We welcome him to the GPPR family with open arms, and rest assured that he is receiving similar love and care at his foster home. Welcome to the GPPR family, Ollie!! 🥰

We spoke too soon! Last night we got a text that Marigold received SIX Lambchops from her Rescue Ranch Christmas in July Secret Santa, Sigmund and Lucy! When Santa has to ship things, which is not nearly as efficient as his sleigh and reindeer, sometimes things get lost in the mail. 😅😉 According to Marigold’s foster mom, this is her absolute favorite toy and she’s one happy pugger 😍🥰 How precious is she?! Thank you Rescue Ranch for bringing JOY!!!

Photos from Georgia Peach Pug Rescue's post 08/07/2024

We wanted to share the rest of our Christmas in July pics and say thank you once again to the AMAZING Rescue Ranch for allowing our fosters to sign up for their fun program. Thanks to all the Secret Santas who delivered happiness to so many fur babies recently. We appreciate the kindness so much ❤️🐾🥰

Clara, who is “top dog” (see what we did there😬) and giving her foster brother, Tucker, the squish, now has an updated bio!! Help us find her a forever family. 😊

🍑Name: Clara
🍑Age: 16 weeks on July 22nd
🍑S*x: Female
🍑Breed Mix: DNA results on Clara show that she is made up of 13 different breeds: 49% pug, 14% chihuahua, 6% beagle, 6% plott hound, 4% boston terrier, 4% american eskimo dog, 4% american hairless terrier, 3% american cocker spaniel, 3% australian shepard, 2% pomeranian, 2% toy poodle, 2% toy fox terrier, 1% norwegian elkhound and 100% adorable and sweet.
🍑Weight: 13 pounds on July 22nd (still growing) - adult weight estimated by vet to be between 30 and 35 pounds. Adult weight estimated by DNA test to be between 20 to 26 pounds.
🍑Neutered/Spayed: No (must agree to spay when old enough)
🍑Housebroken: No, but working on it (right now we are on a 5 day no accident streak). She is doing really well.
🍑Crate trained: No, but used to being locked behind a babygate in a small room with a puppy pad overnight, and a crate for short intervals (2 to 3 hours max)
🍑Barks frequently: No
🍑Digs in the yard: No, but did try a couple of times and stopped when corrected
🍑Good with dogs: Yes, loves to play with other dogs
🍑Good with cats: Don't know, but she is a puppy so she should be able to adjust.
🍑Good with kids: Yes
🍑Food/treat aggression: No, but she does eat like a pug and I have to use a slow feeder with her.
🍑Likes: Food, belly rubs, playing with dogs and humans, toys, chewing, playing fetch and snuggling with her human and dog friend.
🍑Dislikes: Being away from the action
🍑Special considerations:
General health: Good health and high energy but she is a puppy. She has a recessed v***a, so she needs to be wiped after urinating. The vet says that she will need to be spayed after her first heat. The hormones from the first heat will fix the problem.
🍑Temperament: Sweet, smart, sassy, curious, fun loving and will startle with new things but adjust quickly. Very loving and snuggly. She has decided that she is a lap dog.
🍑Personality : Very sweet, loving and smart. She loves to be in on everything going on and can be fearless but clumsy. She does not look like a pug but she is obsessed with food like one.
🍑Behavior: She can be demanding and vocal when you don't move fast enough to let her out of confinement or feed her. She responds to you saying "no" or clapping your hands. Working on potty training her, training her to be calm at meal times, basic commands, etc. and she is responding very quickly. She is very trainable and already comes when she is called and knows sit. She is also a heavy chewer and will need toys made for heavy chewers. She tried to chew on furniture and shoes early on but responded to a "no" correction and is chewing on her toys now.

We got the sad news today that precious Greta, our recent intake, is heartworm positive. After all she has been through, wandering the streets, in a shelter, infected eyes, skin, ears, worms, etc., we were hoping and praying her heartworm test would be negative. 😔 These sweet pics were shared by her foster momma, showing us how Greta is settling into the pampered life quite nicely. We will proceed with her spay at the end of this month, then transition into her heartworm treatment. If you would like to contribute to her heartworm treatment, we have provided the estimate as the last picture. Thank you for considering it 🙏🏼❤️

Our wonderful friends at Rescue Ranch were so sweet to include us in their Christmas in July program! Big thank you to Beverly, Vic, Sigmund & Lucy for being such a great Secret Santa to our Marigold!!! 🥰 This precious girl joined the GPPR family May 2, 2024 after being dumped at the shelter because she had Vaginal Prolapse due to being overbreed. We rushed her to our fantastic vet, East Marietta Animal Hospital, for emergency surgery. We also learned that her tongue hangs out due to having her jaw broken at some point (which was never repaired) from previously being abused. Despite all of this abuse and neglect, Marigold is just the sweetest little angel who is absolutely thriving, happy, and living her best life with our awesome Intake Coordinator Amy. Aren't they both just the cutest?!?!?! Links below for donations for both rescues.
