Sharing Stops Suffering
In our attempt to destigmatize mental illness we are here to offer a platform to share your suffering
Covid taught us a lot.
One lesson seems to be how important mental health is in the workplace. It’s time to wake up, and it’s time to make a change.
In case you need one this morning.

We had our first winter Gala to raise money for those who are in need but of a mental health holiday miracle.
Here’s more of Monica Lewis!
“A licensed professional counselor I joined the board of sharing stops suffering in 2020. Growing up in a family full of military Bettina’s, I witnessed the struggles they dealt with. Their hesitation to discuss those issues, paired with the inability to get the services they needed. I grew a passion for changing the landscape of mental health. Seeing first hand the state of mental health care, and the lack of long term mental health care for those who are uninsured or underserved. Sadly over the last several years that trend has not changed. I joined SSS as a way to help push the mission of the organization to better the access to resources for those same people mentioned above. Lack of insurance and lack of funds should not be a reason that someone does not receive adequate mental health services. I truly believe we have to end the stigma associated with mental health and begin to re-humanize those struggling with severe mental health issues.”

Meet Deanna Harder, RN.
“For as long as I can remember I have outreached to underserved populations. Anything from providing medical treatment to the homeless in Detroit to working in community health within the Flint water crisis. I’ve spent time in different specialties in nursing, but the commonality throughout has always been: if our mental health isn’t right our physical health won’t be right. What drew me to sharing stops suffering, is they recognize the mind-body connection. Sharing stops suffering helps make not only physical health but mental health services available. It is truly an honor to part of an organization that is committed to provide these services and more. To the underserved populations with dignity and respect.”

Joe Difabio has a great heart and a great smile.
Here’s more from him-
“Raised in GA I became a member of the recovery community in 2015. I found a passion for helping individuals suffering from substance abuse and mental health disorders and committed myself to helping others find the help they need. Through my own recovery journey I Have experience with the lack of resources for the indigent populations. Helping those who are in need and don’t have the resources is how I want to make an impact on the community I live in.”

Kim Dehart is a vital member of sharing stops suffering.
Here’s more from her …
“I am passionate about helping others with mental illness. Homelessness. Trauma due to adoption and addictions( with an emphasis on the illicit fentanyl crisis) my daughter Shannon was poisoned and died last year from m**h laced fentanyl unknown to her. She struggled with dyslexia, BPD, and PTSD her whole life her dad and I did all we could, went to extremes to get her the right help after a su***de attempt we ended up going down the rabbit hole of programs ranging from wilderness. RTC, transitional homes and rehabs and hospitals. This went on for six years I feel it’s important that others get the help they need but not over treat. My heart goes out to those that want help but can’t get it or the right answers/medical diagnosis they need to succeed. I wanted to be on this board to represent my daughter, offer input being a mother of a child that struggled so much in her short life and died as a result of it. My daughter will continue to live on through my involvement with sharing stops suffering”

We thought it’s time you met our board members!
“I began my mental health journey at the age of 13, where I got to experience first hand what admission to a hospital for mental health was like. I was also subject to being turned away for treatment due to not having insurance or funds that is needed for quality treatment. I joined SSS to make sure no one who is dealing mental health resources are turned away due to being uninsured. I am a fierce advocate for the mental health community and I will always stop and take the time to talk to anyone who reaches out to me for help and to share my own story for overcoming my own battles with mental illness.”

Hey!
Don’t forget our winter gala!
If you have not bought a ticket yet what are you even doing?
As some relax and enjoy the company of their respective families. Just remember your experience isn’t everyone’s experience.

Some are gathering with joy around the dining room table.. eating a meal together and enjoying each others company. Others are fighting the urge to give up. Make sure you pay attention. Make sure you are approachable to hear.

Some in Hollywood shattering stigma and showing it’s okay to take medication.
Here is what it is NOT.
It’s NOT some split personality disorder.
It’s NOT some violent monster.
It’s not the poor parenting, nor the devil.
It is treatable.

With all common misconceptions about mental health diagnosis, here’s a definition, but a diagnosis doesn’t define you.

Depression isn’t a description of who you are. It’s som**hing you are experiencing.
Don’t let it you.

The statistics regarding the problem with toxic masculinity, and men suffering in silence is very alarming.
The term “mental health” for young children can seem questionable to some, as it is associated closely to mental illness. However, the two are quite different from one another as mental illness refers to a problem and mental health focuses on som**hing positive. When referring to early childhood mental health is focusing on the positive results of early intervention for children who are experiencing challenges socially and emotionally so that they can be successful learners in the future before problems become more serious.
Let’s be proactive, instead of reactive.

Being a family member who suffers from bi- polar disorder can have a ripple affect and not only affect the sufferer.
Here’s a poem about being the child of a mother with bi-polar disorder.
Toxic masculinity tells you to push your feelings down and man up..
mental health among men often goes untreated because they are far less likely to seek mental health treatment than women. Depression and su***de are ranked as a leading cause of death among men. Six million men are affected by depression in the United States every single year.
So man up.. and go to therapy.
